Strikeforce's heavyweight champion, Alistair Overeem, declares boxing as the superior combat sport when compared to MMA according to mmamania.com. "Let's cut to the chase, there's a lot of money to be made in boxing. It is the most popular combat sport out there. I mean, MMA is doing really well and it might overtake boxing but boxing is still the number one. If you look at the revenues made by boxing it is a big difference, a big difference."Overeem said. Overeem has expressed his interest in jumping into the ring, rather than the cage, recently when he voiced his desires to fight Wladimir Klitschko. Klitschko is a heavyweight multi-titled champion from Ukraine who sports a 56-3 boxing record, highly regarded as one of the best pound for pound boxers in the world. It is unclear if a boxing match between Overeem and Klitschko would ever materialize in the future. In the meantime, Overeem is sidelined from Strikeforce's heavyweight grand prix's semifinal round due to an injured toe. He was originally scheduled to fight Antonio Silva, who will now fight Daniel Cormier.
I thought he wanted Vitali but now he's saying Wlad? I like the former better than the latter because, while Wlad should still handily pummel him under Marquess of Queensberry Rules, his disgraceful chin leaves similarly mush mandibled Overeem a slight chance to beat him.
But Overeem hits like a girl with his slowly and sloppy hands, and not only has glass chin, he has glass lungs too xDD
That's why I say that Wlad should by all means destroy him, just that the shaky chin will give kickboxing fans a better chance for laughs than if it were Vitali. It's not likely that either of them is actually going to give this guy a fight, however.
I'd fancy Overeem to win something like Prizefighter just because its a lower level of competition and he has the tournament experience, but he just doesn't have the stamina to fight a Klitschko.
Rephrase to say "The Top Boxers Make More Money and that is the definition of "King" which may be misinterpreted in the way that I originally put it"' Or something like that.
Boxers make a lot of money, fans get screwed. Mixed martial artists are underpayed, fans get what they want. (mostly) Two opposites, but both have their own problem obviously.
He has no chance in a boxing match, whilst his punching ability is pretty good for K-1/MMA, it's his knees that are his most potent weapon and he still has no head movement to shout home about. Alistair is an intelligent, eloquent guy, but he should be looking to fight the winner of the Grand Prix and get himself in the UFC to fight JDS/Cain. All this talk of boxing is a waste of everyones time.
