I agree with you completely. To many people say steroids for anybody who has muscle. YEAH, the guy is freakin big, and it is possible he's on roids...It's possible any athlete is (big or small), but 15 pound gain in 4 years is nothing. People who lift weights can gain about 7 pounds of PURE MUSCLE a year.
Well prior to the Strikeforce bouts that would have been OK but Stikeforce actually subjected the guy to the most stringent drug testing and the guy came out clean as a whistle.
yeah its fishy, but to be fair he is pretty tall for Light heavyweight must have been starving himself before.
This content is protected Overeem is one of the most obvious roiders in sport, anyone who thinks otherwise doesn't know a lot about training. He was already in his mid twenties and a highly conditioned athlete when he started gaining, so that's noob gains out of the window. He has added a lot of muscle to traps and shoulders, area's that are slowest to grow as a natural and he has typical roid bloat face. I have seen him at certain times carrying a boatload of water, i suppose that is natural as well. Even gaining a decent ammount of lean mass a year is a matter of diminishing returns as time goes on, it's not lineal it plateau's. Naturally athletic guy who is very dangerous at his best and i always like watching him but he is a shameless drug user.
Uhh...Traps and shoulders are the hardest to grow? LOL. I mean some peoples muscles grow different, but generaly traps is the easiest muscle to grow, and shoulders aren't really that far behind. Hardest muscles to grow are typically calfs (because you use them every single day when you walk, and you have to work them that much harder), and things that all smaller muscle groups. As for him holding water there's plenty of things LEGAL that do the same. **** you can take Creatine and hold tons of water. As for the size he gets every year...Like I said previously it's nothing to gain 7 pounds of PURE MUSCLE in a year for somebody who really works out, and eats right. And he's not THAT old to not gain muscle, and diminish. Usually a prime male is about 29-31 or so. So, if anything the more you workout, the more you learn, the more you learn about nutrition, the more you understand your body= THE MORE YOU GROW! Until your old you do not have to plateau. Most people in to heavy lifting just get to the size they want, and then afterwards they workout to maintain what they got. I'm not saying the guy was never on roids...Just saying some of your peoples arguments are ******ed as to why he is. Seems nobody beleives a person could workout anymore and gain muscles. BTW: Those pictures you posted...Over how many year period of time did he gain the muscle? If it were 3 he'd obviously be on some ****...If it were 7-12 then I'd beleive it's very possible.
Calves are purely genetic, similar to Forearms, they are impossible to grow if you don't have the genetics, typically most black guys have huge problems building calves. Using them to walk has zero to do with their response to training. I didn't say he was to old to gain muscle, i said the fact that he is a highly trained athlete and past his development stages that it would rule out noob gains, that an average joe who had never trained could attribute quick lean gains to. The fact that you think that it wouldn't plateau is scary. Why would anyone use steroids? The body isn't meant to hold huge ammounts of lean mass. It's a case of diminishing returns, you will still gain but the increments get smaller and smaller. Single most stupid statement that i have heard, like gains would be infinite. Go and train natural for a few years and see the way it works. Traps and shoulders are very good responders to steroids, more so than other muscle groups. Of course you can workout and gain size, it is painfully obvious that Alistair is assisted. That is all. Creatine doesn't cause anywhere near the water bloat of Androgens. Alistair has moon face a lot of the time. The pictures are dated.
Im afraid not an ounce of your opinion is based in any facts. Just more anecdotal supposition. "Typical bloat face"? "Traps and Shoulders are the slowest to grow"? Honestly what exactly are you basing this on? Such statements are so sweeping and baseless to the point of being completely irrelevant.
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck... He weighed in at 224 against Buentello in November, 2007. He was 242 against Mirko in November 2008. He weighed in at 254 against Hari in December 2008. About 30lbs in 13 months of lean mass, all the while doing intense cardio and already training for the entirety of his adult life. He also had a handfull of fights in the meantime, which would cut in to his schedule, you do the math. Not forgetting the huge ammount of water retention and moon face that only guys running heavy androgen cycles get. I couldn't give a ****, but anyone who knows jack about training knows the score.
Overeem for the 2006 GP when he fought Werdum was 228. His last fight in the K-1 GP he was 245lbs. Thats a gain of 17lbs in 4 years. Does that seem like the stats of a man allegedly on "gear"? Its very easy to make baseless assumptions. But many are acting as though Overeem has made some off worldly gains in a short space of time. The facts are he has not. He fought at heavy in PRIDE towards the end of the promotion. He's a 6ft 5 man who has trained as a pro for the last decade. Where is the definitive proof to support any of these assertions other than sweeping remarks about water retention from an Androgen cycle? If Reem was retaining water it wouldnt be just in his face. You'd see it all over. But Reem is always in impeccable condition. It gets really really tiresome listening to goons on forums labelling guys as steroid cheats when no proof even exists.
Well Scurly unless a fighter is dumb enough to get caught then obviously it can only be speculation But as Valane says, if it looks like a duck.... And a more blatant duck i've rarely seen
I think its pretty safe to say that Overeem can get any ***** he wants in Japan.... Lucky mother****er.
Haha. Yeah, Overeem is definitely biting off Sapp's big lovable monster gimmick from a few years back. He's a much better fighter though so maybe his popularity will last longer - but it's doubtful he will reach the same insane heights of popularity that Sapp enjoyed.
I see the logic there with the analogy. But its not fair to make such sweeping statements. Overeem is one of the hardest workers in MMA. Skills pays the bills. Not hormone abuse.
I think the pics don't do justice. I watched that Reem series and they showed a video of him when he was young, he looked built like a tank already. http://vimeo.com/14989158
