What do you mean it doesn't hold water? That tournament has nothing to do with how many fights are left on his contract. It isn't as if he was contractually obligated to finish that tournament regardless of how many fights he had left on his contract. I am sure they just assumed that he would be resigned for the final fight of the tournament. Now that the tourny has to go on without him... there really isn't any point in waiting on him to come back from his injury just to fight one time.... and it not even be in the tournament. Open the title up for the winner of the tourny, and maybe we will see Reem in the UFC.

 

You contradict yourself. If they assumed he would finish the tourny regardless of his contract why would they fire him now fearing he wouldn't finish the tourny because of his contract? Makes no sense. Why would they not wait until he is healed like they waited for Barnett to get approved from his drug bust? **** just doesn't add up. They initionally said the tourny would continue in Octobe or November, Overemm said that would work great for his healing time, then Dana steps in and say no that doesn't work. Why? **** is fishy.

 

Meltzer's reporting that the issue is about Golden Glory (Overeem's camp) wanting to still be included in the deal which is not how the UFC organizes its contract. Whereas the likes of Pride and old Strikeforce will often pay both the fighter and the camp Zuffa only pays the fighter directly. With Zuffa not wanting to set a precedent that really could bite them in the ass in the future, the two sides were at an impasse.

Additionally to that Overeem wanted to move to the UFC and start making real money on pay per view - that however is a no no given the situation with Showtime.

 

I can see that going down, but its still ****. So they wanted him out of the tourney so just in case he won the public outcry for him to fight in the UFC would be too strong for them to ignore. Instead demonize him in the publics eye ruin his image and detroy the mans career and life JUST so they don't have to pay him bigtime money. Sounds like Zuffa.

 

Coker delayed the tournament for Barnett not White - Diaz vs Daley as the main event of the April 9th show was confirmed before the UFC buyout.

Overeem got removed from the tournament because he couldn't make the September 10th date and Showtime weren't willing to change the date. Why there were willing to do so in March and not now I don't know - maybe its down to not having a ready made marquee match-up to go as they did in April, maybe they're not willing to let things slide after the Diaz fiasco or maybe they just don't the tournament dragging on like the Super Six. And they've been rumours since at least the Spring that Barnett wasn't the only reason the second set of tournament matches got were delayed. I think its mistake on their part although to be fair I always thought this tournament was a stupid idea.

Overeem has got 'cut' because he and his camp tried to throw their weight ruond and getting rings run round them by Diaz, the UFC aren't in the mood to get ****ed again so quickly. Much like Cyborg I'd imagine he'll relent and try to make a deal once he realizes the game changed in March..but if he doesn't its his life.

No I hear you , how dare he try to heal to fight at 100%. If you can't fight the most important fight of your life with broken ribs then you deserve to be cut. No doubt Dana is an angel and never does anything wrong.

Why would they care? They never did before, Diaz or Overeem fighting in Dream.

 

If you can't see the difference between Diaz or Overeem fighting in Japan and the UFC poaching the best fighters in Strikeforce then I can't help you.

 

Well which is it? Is it UFC poaching fighters or Showtime not wanting fighters to cross over (whatever that means)? Make up your mind which excuse you are gonna use.
