    Vargas belongs nowhere near this list.

    'Fighting small' isnt talking big, then going on to put on a great show giving all you got but coming up short.

    Talking big then fighting small is exactly what the others have listed, 'Kingpin' against Vitali.... Haye vs Valuev, ect.

    Listing Vargas, a guy who in every defeat near his prime he put it all on the line to win is absurd. Not to mention that he gave Hoya one of the toughest fights of his career up to that point, and they had one of the best Jr Middleweight title fights ever.

    Nowhere near fighting small.

    boxers are never as bad as mma fighters, go watch some of those guys pre fight interviews, they are always claiming they'll die or it'll be a war and then they lay and pray

    I'm just saying' in comparison to the big talk he did before the fight, how much he disparaged De La Hoya and all that, his bark was far greater than his bite. Yes, he did give De La Hoya a tough fight, but he certainly didn't deliver on his pre-fight hype by any measure. Also, "laying it all on the line in every fight" as you put it, and simply not possessing the skills to defeat your opponent and struggling are two very different things.
