Like I said in another thread, I view this fight as basically the equivalent of Lewis-Mercer for Khan (except he ended up on the wrong side of the decision). A really close fight against a good technician that could have gone either way. It's a great learning experience for him. I also think Khan comes back even stronger from this, he's mentally tough enough as he proved after being blown out by Prescott, and losing a close fight in an opponents hometown after he lays it all on the line is nothing to be ashamed about.
Great fight. Never saw LP before this fight. Made a fan out of me. When the ref took that second point, I knew right then Khan was going to lose the fight. What a wild night of boxing! Khan wins the rematch, IMO, no problems.
Peterson won on paper, but being in his hometown and getting the fight on two point deductions makes the win skeptical. He fought the fight of his life and still needed a hometown decision and the 2 point deductions. Without the point deductions even in his hometown he would have lost.
I agree that the last point deduction was bull****, and highly suspect considering it was the last round with only like 2 minutes left. That being said Khan really needs to improve his inside game, he can't simply rely on clinching or pushing, as soon as Peterson bulled him into the ropes he was teeing off on him with no answer from Khan. When the fight was at range Khan was outboxing him cleanly, he opted to stand and brawl WAY too much and it cost him the fight. All in all I think he'll learn from this, and fight a better more measured fight from now on, at least I hope he does.
