As paying customers we have the right to whinge. Also, it shows Setanta what the fans of the sport actually want. :deal To me they are listening to customer feedback so lets not ban the critics just yet huh. They are doing a good job and it just shows how SKY are currently getting their fat lazy asses owned in this department. Khan - Barerra on Box Office?? Sky and Warren can; a) grow a dick, b) dry their eyes, or c) carry on thinking that they are in touch with the fans and feed us a diet of pure **** whilst Setanta carry on making fools of them.
TBooze mate, you are hopping from the 80's when, as you say, everyone knew the big fighters... to now, when people don't And you're criticising the current TV situation for that state of affairs However you are skipping the interim period, mid-late 90's, where boxing went off the screens For me, that's when boxing lost its mainstream appeal. Take Diaz-Marquez, I've told one or two mates to watch it, if it wasn't screened they wouldn't even hear of it. How's that bad? I just can't make the leap from less coverage to more support for boxing... doesn't add up for me. I do however agree that a magazine show would be great especially for more casual fans, but with rights spread across numerous channels, it's not gonna happen. And it's not gonna happen on free TV that's for sure.
We have it good. I've said before that I have heroes from the 70s that I've still never seen! That could not happen now or at any point in the last 15 odd years. I think that there is 13 hours on 3 channels tonight - six title fights and an Olympic gold medal winner. That is stunning. However, somebody will moan that Banks the statue was not shown being exposed (as predicted again and again and again on the Bunce Hour). I was sent hate mail because I dared suggest that a Kronk fighter was slow, predictable and scared of Enzo Mac! Trust me. Adios.
I saw that fight last night, Adamek did very well the guy has a decent chin on him and just seemed to dishearten Banks on the way to the KO.
****ing hell, he actually wrote something that I broadly agree with. There is too much football on TV, so much so that it has become somewhat meaingless. A team misses out on the Premiership...so what, they will get another crack at it in 3 months time. The CL is the worst culprit, it used to be a special event, now its just mundane. However, boxing is TOTALLY different, when I first became a fan, I was like "what the ****", I don't have Sky or Sentana so I basically couldn't watch any boxing other than You Tube, do you know how difficult that makes it for poential fans of the sport, to become an actual fans? very, if there was a big fight live on mainstream tv every month that would attract more new fans, its NOT ABOUT QUANTITY, there are not "too many fights", its about people being able, or not being able, to access those fights.
There's no shame in losing to the top fighter in the division and it's not like he was completely destroyed or anything - so I don't really see how he's been exposed. Exposed as not being the top cruiserweight perhaps, but I'm not sure anybody was saying that. Still, I think Enzo would have beaten him too. It would have been a good looking win for Enzo and would have had him right back in the game.
Setanta is fantastic. Since the beginning they have been continously TRYING to deliver and that is all I can ask. Sure there are **** ups but I'm sure they don't want the signal to cut on purpose. They are working on the big fight formula like HBO. Once they master it, their production and viewing figures will do really well.
