All of the reasons Pacquiao looked good against Oscar do not apply against PBF

If Pac had difficulty unloading his fast combinations consistently against JMM, it is almost certain he would have a harder time in doing it against the calibre of Mayweather, Jr, who is not only as skilled and composed as JMM, but is naturally bigger and athletic.

It would be a competitive fight though. And after his demolition of Dela Hoya, I don't think someone can now sell Pacquaio short and think it would be a lopsided victory for the Pretty Boy.

Yes, and there are many reasons why Pacquiao can cause Mayweather problems.

The southpaw element will play a part. I always felt it was better to be a lefty against Mayweather.

I don't think he's fought too many guys that might be quicker, and when he did Judah caused him problems early before ****ing up as usual.

He puts on pressure in an educated way, and has a high output. That means Mayweather is going to have to be very convincing with his counters if he plans to win a decision.

There are things in Mayweather's favour too. This is why its an interesting fight.

Mayweather is always confident for the reason that a shot on him garners a couple in return. He's always ahead on the scorecards so he can always coast along.

In Pacquaio, he'll be receiving as much as he counters hence, they'll be almost even on the scorecards. If these goes on to the last round Pacquiao will win be virtue of being the aggressor. So, somewhere along the line Mayweather's confidence will slowly erode. If he can't KO Pac up to the middle rounds, Manny's confidence will soar high while Floyds will dissipate. In the later rounds, Manny will be giving a couple for every counter from May.

The key to beating Floyd is removing that smog confidence. Once thats taken out, he'll be for the taking for Manny.

I'm sure Manny can do that as he is still the faster fighter of the two for the punch...

Good post. I tend to agree with you, and I would favor Floyd if this fight comes to fruition. However, I'm never going to count Pacman out again.

And the most important reason: Oscar was simply nowhere near the same against Pacquiao as he was against Floyd.

I must always reiterate when making a statement like that, that I don't wish to take away credit from Pac, as his performance was picture perfect. But he was in there with a DLH ripe for the picking and with hardly anything to offer. Against any top WW's or active opponents at these higher weights, it won't be nearly the same cakewalk.

I'll give Pacquiao much more credit if he beats Hatton at 140 given the circumstances.

The thread starter has valid points.

Hatton v Pac would be a real good & likely close fight... I believe a Pac v Floyd fight would look similar to the majority of the 1st Pac/Morales fight except Floyd wont be turning southpaw or trading punch for punch unecessarily... in other words, the better boxer with the more accurate punches will coast home with a couple of but not too many hairy moments.

If Pac could beat Mayweather (I highly doubt this) then I would place him as 1 of the 10 best fighters of all time... thats just my opinion but I dont think he is a good enough boxer to pull it off.

This isnt discrediting Pac at all. I did not say anything that took away from Pac's performance saturday night. I said he destroyed DLH and thats it. The PBF-Pac fight is now a very real possibility so there is nothing wrong with trying to analyze the matchup.
