Billy, you are not seriously contending that Laryea is a credible fight for a 'world title' holder to take?

Beating Paul Appleby should not be a final eliminator for a world belt

Dont insult our intelligence with this. Say its a keep busy defence to keep Burns' name out there or that it was hard to get anyone else in or that its in advance of a unification match, but dont portray this as a credible fight man. If the germans put up an oppnonent of this standard we would be making threads and laughing about it. It works both ways.

    Fail.

Foster's a very good fighter. Just because the better man (Fegatilli) beat him with the better gameplan doesn't mean Foster can't beat Burns.
    Plus: styles make fights.

    Please GTFO :patsch

Laryea has lost to the following guys.

    Osumanu Akaba

Beaten by Ricky Burns at Super Feather in 2009 Paul Truscott in 2009

Amidu stopped Lareya in 4 rounds in 2007. Amidu was later stopped by Burns in 7 rounds in 2008.

    Maxwell Awuku

Lost on points to Liam Walsh in Walshes 10th fight last year, Awuku has previously beaten Lareya in 2009.

Laryea is f'n awful, both 130lbers from Saturday night are better than him (and Appleby) and can people stop going on like Fana is some kind of super fight?!?! He's also a sporadically DECENT fighter, Uchiyama is the man at 130 IMO.

The division is so poor Burns really has no excuse for trying to clean it up before some of the big names from the lower divisions decide to move up.

Laryea ***etelli do nothing for his name or legacy etc etc

I think to be fair to Billy, he has to defend his fighter in this situation, it's probably not Ricky's decision to pursue this match.

Why people (including me) are pissed off is because Laryea hasn't earned this shot at all, upsetting a shockingly ill-prepared and seemingly under-motivated Paul Appleby doesn't really cut it for me.

It's not as if there is anyone within the division for Ricky to steer clear of either..... he's more than capable of holding his own with and probably beating the remaining members of the top 10 - and that's what his management should be looking to steeer him towards.

I can't see him making this weight for much longer, and bearing in mind the 135 class is much stronger currently it would be a shame for Ricky to leave the division with say half a dozen weak defences of his WBO title and not take the opportunity which currently presents itself - i.e. becoming the undisputed #1 in a division.

As everyone else has said, he seems like a top lad and is a real honest grafter..... people want him to do well in meaningful matches, and not shite like this.

    Uchyama takes him out.

I also see him moved up to fight the Mitchell vs Murray winner.
