How about Floyd Patterson vs. Roy Jones Jr.

    That would be interesting.

Patterson could have fought today as a SMW and a LH

Or how about Michael Spinks at LH?

Or even prime Ali. I know it's blasphemy against the gods of the golden age but I don't think Ali ever saw anybody with the speed of RJJ.

No one is saying he isnt mate. You can say one fighter is greater than the other without having to rubbish said fighter.

Ezzard Charles is just one of the greatest fighters to ever lace them up, which ever way you look at it.
He fought in a better era and achieved greater things, when boxing was far more blue ribbon than it is now.

Roy is a great fighter, Charles is just greater thats all.

    350-0 :rofl:rofl

Charles also had a total of 19 wins over 7 men currently in the hall of fame.

    On the same night.

But Charles is the exception and it's unfair to compare other LHW's to him. It's like comparing all lightweights to Duran. Those type of fighters dont come along very often.

Instead, looking at someone like John Conteh... he too would have cleaned up in the current scene.

I don't think that anyone in history would have walked through RJJ - he's a freak of nature. I do however think that guys like Spinks, Maxim, Foster, Moore etc. would have run riot in today's division.

These guys were battle-hardened and didn't have the opportunity to cherry pick fights with a proliferation of different governing bodies and titles.

The Patterson fight would have been very interesting I reckon.

Floyd was a wrecking ball at the weight, would have liked to see him in more fights there.

Spinks beats Roy more often than not...Either by KO or he outworks a very defensive minded Roy to a decision. But the precedent is there for Roy troubling the relatively immobile and slow footed Spinks immensely..on a bad night Spinks could lose this one for sure.
