The difference is that Martinez was throwing and landing a lot more counters on Williams than Hopkins was throwing and landing on Calzaghe and Calzaghe's pressure was having a more obvious effect on Hopkins than the pressure Williams was putting on Martinez.

Calzaghe used more than activity against Hopkins, he employed his own ring craft, adjustments and skills. Hopkins didn't move and land clean and HARD shots as Martinez did. Hopkins ended up landing the occasional clean shot and a few scrappy ones as a result of in fighting. Calzaghe's activity and ability to match Hopkins clean landed shots stole him the fight IMO. Williams too several hard shots, and Sergio seemed to have control of that fight late on. Say 9 through 12.

I hate it a draw if I remember right, or a 1 point win for Sergio.

Yea but I think Calzaghe was missing more and wasn't landing as much as Paul Williams was on Martinez.(he started landing more in the second half of the fight with Hopkins) And that's due to Hopkins great defense.

He was landing harder and cleaner shots than Joe was, that's for sure. I think Joe landed more total(not as much Compubox indicated though) and that's because he's always thowing punches.

you thought Hopkins won that? Hopkins is smart. He knows how to search for fighters weaknesses and then he tries to either steal the fight or exploit a fighter who was never that great like Pascal. Calzaghe he did not beat.

I scored both of these in the same day about a week ago. I had it 114-113 for Joe and Pwill. I see what your saying in comparison but these fights were nothing alike

Well than you see my point because you thought Calzaghe won, just as you thought Williams won by the same margin.

Sergio won a close fight and Calzaghe won a fight that was not quite as close as the Williams vs Martinez fight. Lara beat Williams also. Pernell Whitaker beat Chavez.

That fight is just more proof that Hopkins is a dirty old man. To actually claim that he won the figh is absurd. All Hopkins tries to do is fight dirty and avoid getting hit. Watch his fight with Winky Wright. What a disgrace.

See the problem with the Hopkins fight was he didn't do himself any favors by the acting job ..I wonder how much of that palyed into the judges minds ..As close as it was he could have pulled it out but instead did that crap ..

Two completly different fights, clearly. Sergio was backing up, but was throwing alot of punches and was not holding on, faking low blows, every chance he got just to stay in the fight. Williams actually was the one holding on.

A few months back I scored the Hopkins vs Calzaghe fight in favor of Calzaghe. I had the fight 115-112. Recently I scored the fight 114-113 for Hopkins. I had Sergio beating Paul Williams in the first fight. I can't remember my scorecard though.

Martinez and Calzaghe won those fights. It was ridiculous that Hopkins thought that he got robbed in that fight. Martinez v.s. Williams I was a close fight while Hopkins v.s. Calzaghe wasn't.
