Alright, before the fight those boxing gurus were bragging about how Spence would destroy Porter, he would TKFO him , that Spence was so much better and bigger than Porter etc.. We all saw Porter outboxed Spence and in my opinion won the match. Where is Freddie Roach, where is Oscar dela Hoya now?
Not that I'm an authority of anything. But come on, as far as breakdowns go. Mine was pretty goddamn close to spot on, give me a little love in retrospect. Excellent question, it deserves far more attention than it's getting, and I genuinely think it's not even close to a foregone conclusion. Although with Porter, that's not a shock, I'm pretty sure I was one of the only people on here that without hesitation picked him to maul Broner, and thought that his match with Thurman was going to be Keith toughest test, that he might not pass. And he barely did. Although very hesitant. I'm actually leaning Porter by KO. Now hear me out, and no I'm not crazy. Porter is rugged, is a solid inside fighter, is tough as nails with an amazing chin. He fights well on the front foot and on the back foot. He's unorthodox, awkward and very unpredictable. Sure you may say he looked horrible against Ugas, well Ugas just dominated Figueroa from start to finish in their match, and did an excellent job nullifying everything Omar attempted to do. I figured he'd win, but not that decisively. Ugas is huge for the division, hit's hard, and is an excellent counter-puncher. Arguably more skilled than Spence. So the fact that Porter did as well against him is he did, is very impressive. Spence has never faced an opponent that wasn't either shot, too small or compromised. The one good opponent he's had that was compromised, took 5 to 6 rounds off of him, and stunned him a time or two. Great he was able to take the power of Mikey Garcia, so did Adrien Broner and Sergey Lipinets, and that was at 140. Mikey's power clearly didn't follow him up in weight, just like with Broner's. So the reality is, that was Triple G vs Kell Brook, only without the KO or the marauding much larger man actively seeking a KO walking through bombs. The amount of respect that Spence showed a pune like Mikey was shocking. How many people have said that Spence isn't a big puncher? Maybe you guys should start listening to them. As close as the matches Porter had with Thurman and Garcia were, both of whom are elite opponents, along with his close match against Ugas who's a stylistic nightmare for most. Should tell you that Porter is a little underrated in the skills department. Yes Spence is decent, but the reality is, he's not anywhere close to being special, he's just a big guy in the division who throws a lot of punches, while he has decent footwork, and cuts the ring off quite well, he doesn't bring anything to the table a guy who shared the ring with Brook, Thurman or Garcia hasn't already had to deal with before. Porter can be quite cagey, hard to time, and nearly impossible to get the rhythm of. He simply will not do what every other opponent of Spence has done before. It took Spence about five rounds to adjust to the one twos of Kell Brook, how the hell is he going to adjust Porter who can change his incredibly erratic style from round to round? As a southpaw Spence is going to be wide open for Porter's lunging right hook, and when it lands it's going to be neck wrenching, the kind that can cause concussions. Also his body is going to be open for that right hook as well. Another thing, how good is his gas tank? Because you've never seen anybody bring the fight to him, push the pace, and truly tax his ass. Porter will. I have no idea how this match will play out, but what I do know is it will not be a walk in the park for either man.
With the above post, you accurately portray Porter as the beast that he is, yet said the following after Spence beat him Yes he was exposed.(meaning Spence). How was Spence exposed when Porter has given every top welterweight that he fought fits? You also said you were leaning toward Porter by KO when in reality the shot that dropped Porter would have knocked out the majority of welterweights currently in the division. You also state that Spence Isn't anywhere close to being special, yet portray Thurman and Garcia as "elite opponents" who Porter had close matches with, yet Spence Isn't anything special, meanwhile he just beat Porter and dropped a guy you said is "tough as nails with an amazing chin" As far as Spence's gas tank is concerned, I think it proved to be just fine. Hopefully Crawford, who you claimed would decimate Spence, will step up to the plate and fight an elite opponent for the first time in his 11 year career. It's time, he is 35 fights into his career after all.
I was ****ing around, check the RBR. Yes, clearly Porter is a monster, and I find it hilarious that so many gave him little to no chance. But by the standard set by some of the kooks on here. He did in fact get exposed, by a top 3 or 4 Welterweight they gave no chance to. Personally I do think Spence is vastly overrated, and Porter is vastly underrated and they met somewhere in the middle tonight. They're both solid Welterweights. Spence proved he was beatable and very human. Hopefully it grounded a few of the maniacs who had him beating Mayweather and Trinidad with ease a year or so ago.
Think you meant Spence in the last sentence but I agree. Porter had a lot of questions answered about Spence.
The odds were pointing at a decision win for Spence. That was the most likely and most expected result.
They are always wrong, then they just slink back in to the shadows. They'll be wrong about Usyk too. Just like they were against Lucian Bute
I've said this since the Brook fight..Spence has a slow stance, and he doesn't like being put under pressure. I always gave Porter a chance against Spence, and people on this forum always threw that idea in the bin. Spence looked uncomfortable against Brook in those first 7 rounds before the eye injury, and Spence was also behind after 7 rounds. It came as no surprise WHATSOEVER to me that Spence struggled against Porter. I've always had my doubts, and last night they finally proved correct. There is one more question for Spence to answer: How does he fare when he's put under pressure at 154? Here's the answer. He gets knocked out. Spence's tools are power, height and reach. All 3 of those things disappear at 154. He offers nothing to the table at 154lbs, and that's why that undefeated record is GOING one way or another. For those previously saying he'd beat Canelo, they just got a reality check last night.
Ah, the germ of that abortion of a thread you made today. If you cab't tell the difference between Usyk and Bute, then this thread couldn't more appropriate for you. You fit in perfectly with its prime targets.
