I think "CAST" is a description that folks are using and riding with just because it creates debate. While tape and guaze will not create a "CAST" like wrap......STACKING can create a much harder wrap that could help a fighter inflict more damage through the padding of their gloves. NOT a CAST but a much harder hand wrap. I highly doubt it would be a difference maker in a fight but you never know. There are tricks that some camps use to make their wraps extra hard in hopes it will inflict more damage.
So you are of the opinion that getting hit by the two edges depicted below, with the same force, there would be no difference in damage inflicted? This content is protected
Actually those ridges create more padding over the knuckle area which is why a lot of fighters use this method of wrapping the hands. Stacking is different... that does create a harder surface area which is a double edged sword.... while stacking creates the harder surface area it also takes away from the "cushion" that absorbs the force a fist takes when impact is made.
The double edged sword analogy is one of the most intelligent statements, and your explanation behind it is one of the most intelligent responses I have seen in this forum. There are ways to make wraps harder, and it may help to a small degree in creating superficial damage, but that harder wrap is also the buffer between you're knuckles and what ever you're hitting and can lend to damage of the knuckles. So there in lays the dilemma. I myself would rather have my hands well protected so I could feel secure in punching with full force, and for my hands to be properly protected I would need the following in a hand wrap... my wrist securely wrapped so as to stabilize the joint, as much padding as allowed over the face of the fist to cushion my fist upon impact, and a snug wrap around the hand. The wrap around the hand is where I see many trainer make a mistake. They wrap around the hand so tight and with so much tape and gauze that it buckles the palm of the hand, and compromises the fighters agility to tightly close the hand and make a hard fist. That more than anything else will lead to injury. Anyway... well said knuckleup99.
Busted up faces in boxing matches aren't new people, c'mon now. If I knew I could use a perfectly legal wrap and bust the other guy up more, I'd do it even if it was a myth. This is a fight after all. Ridges for everyone!
these will make a punch more dangerous 1. taking the stuffing out of the glove, while wrapping the hands the correct way 2. taking the stuffing out of the glove, while literally dipping your fists in plaster of paris (the way resto did) having said that...................... if you tamper your wraps but DO NOT take the stuffing OUT of the glove....you're practically cheating in vain.......the glove's stuffing will dissipate practically all of the supposed "added energy" from plaster of paris.....which isn't really that much harder than human bone?? now....if it's just a matter of plaster vs. human bone......then sure, plaster is probably harder, but damnnnn idk how you can punch like that and not hurt the **** out of your hand.....it's like you're literally punching a brick with every punch......and idk but my guess is that would hurt you more than it would help you in a fight. i've never cheated so i wouldn't know... but imagine me punching you straight up just on the face with my hand..... yea....that would hurt.......now......imagine me putting a pillow over my hand and then i punch you....would that really do much damage?? in my opinion there's not much damage if the glove itself is intact. if the glove has the stuffing taken out of it....then that's where you can cause serious injury. just my opinion
AMEN! Well said... that was my next point, but after reading the illogical replies, and personal insults I received in response to this post I figured it a waste of time to write another lengthy reply. Once again... well said.
Adding more weight to the inside of a glove without increasing (or decreasing) the soft padding of the glove will absolutely translate to more concussive force. Think about it. :think
Go buy two rolls of athletic tape and feel how much it weighs... you are talking about an insignificant amount of weight. By your logic wearing bigger gloves would do should give the same affect you describe. In fact if you were blind folded and had an 8oz glove put on one hand and a 10oz glove on the other I would bet you would be unable to tell which was which. We are not talking about a roll of quarters in your fist here. You're talking about some extra tape and gauze. Sooooooo..... YOU think about it.
Thanks bro.... I think you have a very valid argument about the whole Hand wrap excuse that everyone likes to ride with. You have a lot more experience than 95% of these guys on here but everyone on ESB is an "expert".....they just don't have any real world experience like you have. Good luck with that new prospect you have under your wing. I hope he turns out to be the goods.
Illegal wrapping does make a difference. If you use more tape and illegally wrap you can create a harder surface. The velocity (speed) of the punch will be the same but by having a harder object behind it this will increase the overall force of the punch. However, it won't make a very light puncher suddenly very heavy handed but there will be a difference
:-(( Maybe try actually reading the post I was responding to. Dude was talking about PLASTER wraps adding nothing if you don't remove the soft padding from the gloves, which is false. Like I said, adding extra weight to the inside of a glove WITHOUT increasing the soft padding inside the glove will translate to more concussive force. It's simple ****ing physics.
