Never before has so much stock been put into trainers. Pac would have beaten Hatton if Roach coached Hatton and Mayweather trained Manny. Is this because the fighters of today have less personality, Manny is a great fighter but is so boring in interview the TV companies would rather focus on the Roach/Mayweather rivalry. 'I will do my best, I'm only doing my job, It is in god's hands etc' YAAAAAWN. Roach and Pac did nothing extraordinary in the build up to this fight. They just examined tapes and worked out the right gameplan and stuck to it. Boxers/trainers have been doing this for years. Best example could be Louis Schmelling I. A trainer can only do so much with what he has to work with. You can't make strawberry jam out of pig ****. Let's get back to giving the credit to the fighters. They are the ones who deserve it. They are the ones taking the shots.
You make it sound like he's doing interviews William Hung-style. :nut I'll never get tired of Schmeling's "I zee zomthink!" line, though. Yeah, the whole p4p Trainer of all Time nonsense was utterly stupid. The contrast between training styles and what each trainer saw in the other fighter was vaguely interesting. The 'buffing facets of a diamond' cliche hung on Roach and Mayweather's whole 6 Million Dollar Man attempt ("I can rebuild him and then some... because I've got the technology, son!") made for "the stuff that sportswriters cream off." Pretty sure Bogart said that.
Nothing. I don't bet on boxing, never have, too unpredictable. I did pick Hatton though. Mainly becausr a fighter taking power up those many weight divisions is unprecidented.
