I have taken at least one fighter, sometimes two from best five wins thread of the Lineal / Ring Magazine champions. See the results below: https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/best-five-wins-thread-lineal-ring-magazine-heavyweight-champions.648718/ Rules: No Ring Magazine or Lineal champion may be selected for this tournament. Every fighter, except Holyfield, has a representative taken from his resume. The reason Holyfield's top 5 did not quality is this. They were all lineal champions. There will be 48 fighters total ( 12 per bracket ), in 4 separate brackets. I will be placing each champions representative away from his predecessor and successor so we are unlikely to see matches that already happened in round one and possibly two. Each match is 15 rounds tournament scored under the 10 point must system I will need two volunteers. Does anyone want to volunteer to update the results of the brackets? Speak up now please. This will be a single elimination tournament. There will be 32+16+8+4+2+1 total fights. A lot of voting! To speed things up we will be voting four matches at a time for the round of 32 and round 16 with three days for debate. When we get to the round of 8, we will be voting for 2 matches at a time Standard three days of debate, majority rules. If there is a tie, I'll break it the following way. UD = 3 Points KO= 3 points. Majority Decision ( Two judges for the winner the other draw ) =2 points, Split Decison =1 points. You can vote a draw if you wish for 0 points. DQ votes will not be allowed. If its still tied, I'll think of something! Look for the brackets and the fighters selected soon.
I will either alphabetize the brackets and have the fighters match up that way, or separate what I view are the top 4 seeds per bracket. I also might tinker a bit as one bracket seems a little on the weak side, and another extra strong. Never the less here are the fighters that are selected: Bracket 1 Kilrain Root O'Brien Fulton Loughran Ray Machen Lyle Tucker Liakhovich Sanders Wilder Bracket 2 McCoy Choynski T. Sharkey Greb Schaff Bivins Folley C. Williams Mercado Berbick Mercer Tua Bracket 3 McCoy Maher Denver Ed Martin Langford Stribling Farr Moore Ellis Witherspoon Shavers Tubbs Peter Bracket 4 Ruhlin Moran Wills Godfrey Conn Bonevena Norton Quarry Cooney Schulz Povetkin Byrd
The only way I can do this is one bracket at a time. Majority rule on the voting. You must vote the following way. UD, TKO/KO, MD, SD, or Draw! If there is a tie, here's how the tie breaker works. UD = 3 Points KO= 3 points. Majority Decision ( Two judges for the winner the other draw ) =2 points, Split Decision =1 points. You can vote a draw if you wish for 0 points. DQ votes will not be allowed. I have alphabetized the brackets. No seeding here. There will be a full three days of voting. Round one bracket 1. Please copy and paste this format for ALL Votes to make it easy on me. Fulton vs *** Fulton via KO/TKO in 5 Kilrain >Winner's face each other Liakhovich vs *** Liakhovich UD Loughran >Winner's face each other Lyle vs ***Lyle SD Machen >Winner's face each other O'Brien vs *** Ray UD Ray >Winner's face each other Root vs *** Sanders KO 3 C. Sanders >Winner's face each other Tucker vs *** Tucker TKO 9. Tucker too skilled and a big man himself. Wilder Notes: The best fight I think is Lyle vs Machen as Machen has the speed and defense, plus counting ability to make it interesting. At the end of the day I think Lyle was just too powerful. The hardest call was Fulton vs Kilrain. If Kilrain was as tough and could hit as they say, he can win this one vs a chiny Fulton. Easiest match to call. Sanders over Root.
Fulton vs *** Fulton via KO/TKO in 5 Kilrain >Winner's face each other Liakhovich vs *** Loughran UD Loughran >Winner's face each other Lyle vs ***Lyle MD Machen >Winner's face each other O'Brien vs *** Ray UD Ray >Winner's face each other Root vs *** Sanders KO 2 C. Sanders >Winner's face each other Tucker vs *** Tucker TKO 6 Wilder
Obviously hard to judge Kilrain but Fulton appears to be too big and powerful for him. Lyle-Machen would be fantastic, my money is for Lyle just to sneak by. Tucker-Wilder would look similar to Fury-Wilder 2. I can't see Wilder winning here, usually i would give him a punchers chance, but Tucker is too skilled to be caught by that right hand.
On Tucker vs Wilder, Tucker is too good of a boxer and has some power himself. Wilder had some struggles vs. less than talented guys, only to be bailed out by his power. Stopping Tucker was no easy task, ask Tyson on Lewis. Tucker was not stopped until age 36, then age 38.
That's okay. It is a bit much. If few want to participate, the non-lineal champion shall not be crowned by ESB
