I just noticed that Harry Greb and Benny Leonard both fought Soldier Bartfield. Also Young Griffo and Jack Johnson both fought Young Peter jackson. Just wondering what other all time great (or interesting) fighters shared common opponents that might be a bit of a surprise. Any other examples?
depends on how long you determine an Era? every decade, or a 20, 25 year period or what have you... a quick break down would be fighters who fought over 3 plus decades, that would be either side of 25 years and beyond, well beyond in a few cases. Loads of fighters fought 15-20 careers, but didn't necessarily cross Era's. also a fighter at the END of his career, fights a prospect or up & comer, who in turn goes 15 years say and meets, at the end of his own career, a new great or noted fighter. that would certainly constitute common opponents infringing into new Era's. anyhow 3 sure starts should pull up a good few greats... Bobby Dobbs SRR Roberto Duran.

Jimmy Carruthers and Lionel Rose both fought Don Johnson 9 years apart. Interestingly Carruthers refereed a fight involving Johnson 8 years after he fought him.
George's Carpentier fought Frank Klaus at Middleweight and fought Jack Dempsey at Heavyweight. Fitzsimmons fought Non Pariel Jack Dempsey and Jim Jefferies.
Jimmy Wilde and George Carpentier have a common opponent in George Gloria. Johnny Dundee and Freddie Steele both fought Joe Glick. Tony DeMarco and Vito Antuofermo both met Denny Moyer.
If you're willing to be flexible on the all time great requirement: Hugo Pineda: common opponent of Kostya Tszyu and Glen Johnson
Angel Robinson Garcia fought Roberto Duran, Wilfred Benitez, Ismael Laguna, and Jose Napoles, as well as pretty much everyone else in a career that ranged from 1955 to 1978.
