Except that Fitzsimmons, Langford, and Ketchel KTFO'd and knocked down guys with 1 shot who had 15-20+lbs on them many times with a single punch. Jackson's power is probably comparable to theirs, but is only founded on speculation as the others were proven to destroy heavier guys. So really you're the one who doesn't know the facts.
G-Man imo but Bob Fitsimmons and Nigel Benn deserve mention. For right now David Lemeiux has mule power.
Facts? More like Myths Maybe? Where is the video footage of these amazing KO's? You're simply being nostalgic , no chance those old white guys who beat up farmers and janitors hit like Jackson or McClellan. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BOFdL5VkcQM[/ame] Watch this footage of Fitzs ... I am not arguing that he isn't an ATG.. but to argue that he had the one punch power of a Julian Jackson is simply outrageous ... they didn't even punch with great technique back then, the sport has evolved 10 fold since then... Like I said, you're just being nostolgic, and wouldn't know power until you witness real one punch power from close up. I have spent years in boxing gyms, and seen the difference in punchers.
Fact : Fitz, Ketchel, Langford, even Greb have hurt, knocked down and or KO'd top HW's. Fact: Jackson never proved his power against anyone above MW. Deal with it.
I always wonder about guys from the modern era's power.. I mean look at Foster, or recently Adamek even, very good hitter at CW but not at HW. I'v often wondered if guys like Jackson or G-man would be able to hurt CW/HW's. .
Ketchel and Fitzimmons from old days, also Graziano, although his power was mostly in right hand. I'll go with Monzon as more recent champ.
How many lineal Heavyweight champions do you reckon Jackson KO's? Oh, and by the way guys, you do realise Jackson was at his most destructive as a Junior Middleweight, correct? His only truly notable KO at 160 was against Graham, and the best fighter he faced otherwise (Thomas Tate) took him the distance. That said, he's obviously still among the biggest hitters at Middleweight. You could tell that just by the way he leveled guys. I don't think he'd have been capable of accomplishing the feats that the likes of Ketchell and Fitz did at higher weights, though. Not a chance. If we're talking guys who were more or less career Middleweights, you could throw in the likes of Eduardo Lausse, Rodrigo Valdez, Cyclone Hart, etc. All punched just as hard as Jackson at Middle, in my opinion.
Well that's ironic, even on that old footage where the speed of the film does them no favours, you can see the effect of Fitzsimmons punch on Corbett close up,and that's after 14 hard rounds against a man 20 pounds heavier. Nobody's dissing Jackson or being nostalgic,Jackson is obviously up there, but equally don't write off the old timers so easily.
Gerald McClellan was a hellacious puncher. JJ would have to be my #1, he could take you out at any time with any punch. I know Fitz was great, but I'm not an authority on his career. I've seen a lot more of G-Man and JJ and I think they could KO (and frequently did) men the size of Jim Corbett (184).
