In terms of pre-war British fighters, it's hard to look past Jimmy Wilde as the greatest. He's the only guy in British boxing history who has a legitimate or consesus claim to be the all-time no. 1 fighter in one of the original 8 divisions. No one else can come close to matching that.
Not in any order of course I think Honeyghan and John Conteh as well as Ken Buchanan will have to be in the top 10. Obviously Lennox Claudius Lewis, Super Joe Calzaghe the Welsh Italian devil himself(that is a term of admiration). Also Ted the Kid Lewis, Prince Naz Hamed, difficult to leave out Froch though Andre Ward did outclass him let's be fair. My final 2 would be the dark destroyer our Nigel Benn and as much as it hurts me it would have to be his arch rival Chris EUbank Sr aka English. Honorable mentions to the Mancunian Mexican Ricky Hatton, Mrs Barry McGiggle as the great Azumah Nelson named McGuigan the Clones Cyclone.
1 Joe Calzaghe 2 Ken Buchanan 3 Carl Froch 4 Jimmy Wilde 5 Bob Fitzsimmons 6 Ted Kid Lewis are the 6 that stand out to me.
Losing once to a GREAT fighter in Andre Ward is nothing to be ashamed of at all. Froch has probably the best resume of any UK fighter ever and nobody fought the fighters he faced back to back like that. Hamed got completely outclassed by Barrera yet you fail to mention that, that was a very one sided fight. Hamed would have faced many losses had he continued to fight and not retired , he clearly couldn't compete with the elite. Morales, Pacquaio, Marquez, etc would have whooped him badly.
To be perfectly honest with you my man. I highly doubt the 3rd best British boxer of all time would lose in a British title fight to someone like the domestic level Frank Grant! This content is protected
Froch was also beaten by Direll but got the hometown decision. If their were 10/15 more seconds left in Groves 1 he would've got knocked out.Hamed was a hypejob aswell,he relied on his power too much and got lucky with referring descions espically in the Sanchez fight. However my point stands Lennox Lewis and Joe Calzaghe were the best 2 from these shores, everyone else was either a 5/10 or Just above European Level.
if/but/maybe/wouldve /shouldve - your excuses are pathetic you are just a Froch Hater troll so there's no point even debating it with you, you know the truth. Lewis was Canadian. And you need to slap yourself and go on a internet self ban ( trolling ban) if you are claiming the likes of Ken Buchanan, Jimmy Wilde and all the others were 'average'.
Ken Buchanan European level Troll is obvious This content is protected This content is protected Now that ^ is LEGIT.
Truly awful list!!! For starters Lennox Lewis is a product of the Canadian boxing system he isn`t one of ours and never paid taxes here.Fitzsimmons cannot be classed as one of ours he left the UK when he was a little boy and learned how to fight in New Zealand...........Ricky Hatton????? give me a break.
Because we are British dosent mean we have to settle for Mediocrity.Froch was one of my favourite fighters to watch in what was during that period a poor time for British Boxing.I give all the credit to Froch he is the one who rejuvnated Brit Boxing with the 2 Groves Fight and Kessler. But he was a classic bar room brawler and against Ward,Direll and Groves showed that.Hard man though and one of the best this country produced.
Onto your second point,Look at what flag Lennox Fought under.Lewis was born in England, dont understand why he repped Canada in the Olympics but that is another matter.I'd actually say Lennox is Jamacian but he still had British Citzienship and he chose to represent Britain. He is a Legit Brit.If you call Lennox a Canadian you might as well call Joshua a Nigerian.
Eyyyy, finally i agree with you their.Ricky Hatton was one of the most overrated fighters i have seen.Is he still well after what Pacquaio done to him.His Fans were a bunch of pathetic, chavvy mobs. His record contained hasbeens and some from Manchester go on as if he's a legend for British Boxing. When he stepped up he got battered, twice. That Indicates he used to fight bums and when he stepped up the level he was found out as a average fighter but no one calls him a bum.Froch at least won against Good Oppposition,Hatton was bang shite.
I have included Froch in my 10 British pound for pound. He was outclassed by Ward is a fact and was beaten by Kessler. Hard man though but technically far from the best. Hamed the Prince is included as well. We don't know how he would have done with Morales in particular style wise but he did beat a lot of world champions.
