I can explain it to you, I can't understand it for you. I would suggest your go back and re-read and try to figure it out, but it would do you no good. A win for Fury over Joshua would parallel the win for Joshua over Wlad...not hard to understand at all. I can simplify it no further. Good luck to you in your struggles here, and in life.
People love to live in the moment. Im guessing those that rank him so highly dismiss everything before 1970. Or they think Wilder is a legendary boxer himself, I guess could explain some of it.
Originally a critic (or at least unimpressed) by Fury, I've come to appreciate his craft, boxing acumen, and enviable martial spirit. Do I think he's the GOAT? Of course not; he'd have a hell of time with a lot of the guys from the 90s, much less the 70s. But I do think a properly motivated and "fit" Fury would be a handful for most heavyweights, irrespective of the era. If some people can't acknowledge as much, that's their problem (and I'm not some noob who picked up the sport 5mins ago).
For me I wouldn't want to say until after his career finished. This Wilder trilogy has been great for his career, and has revived it after those years he went off the rails. But his resume isn't good enough to be considered in all-time lists just yet. Klitschko and Wilder the only noticeable wins so far If he retires unbeaten having beaten Usyk, AJ & Whyte then he gets into that conversation. I think he easily beats Whyte & AJ, and the Usyk fight will define where he stands on all-time lists
Hypothetical matchups should not count when considering ATG status. Accomplishment and resume should determine that.
The thing that's keeping Fury from the top 15 (aka above Bowe) is the fact that he's never beaten (much less ko'd) a fighter the level of prime Evander Holyfield.
Hes top 20 ATM. Gonna take some work to get past the next few tho. For one he has to unify the division at the least.
As I said on these pages after the second bout with Wilder, I'm waiting 'til the whole book is written. Now's not the time to discuss all-time ranking, least not for me. Fury can achieve more.
