Very good point. If Michael Nunn had never fought a guy of Toney's quality and had instead strategized his career in a more calculating manner, we could be sitting right now saying he was as good as Ray Leonard. For all we know, the same could have happened to Mayweather as did Nunn, had he actually fought Mosley or Williams, but he never fought them, so he can't be rated on the same level as men who did fight the best available in their era and beat them, and proved their ability beyond any doubt - like Arguello did, who Bill has inexplicably and unforgivably placed below 'Money'.

 

Exactly. If Floyd was anywhere close to being as good as he thinks he is, he'd have no trouble fighting the best in his division. I think the whole thing regarding Bob Arum is a scapegoat, as Mayweather was once offered 8 million to fight Antonio Margarito, who undoubtedly posed more of a threat than Carlos Baldomir. The fans know who the credible fighters are, so even if Carlos did have the belts, the fans know better. Well, those who aren't riding Floyd's dick.

 

Nunn looked like the greatest fighter since Pernell Whitaker when he outclassed Frank Tate. It's a credit to Nunn that'd he go on to fight the likes of Kalambay and Toney, two fighters a Floyd Mayweather Jr wouldn't have gone anywhere near.

 

Ive no problem with Arguello, Monzon or Hagler being ranked over Mayweather, Ive never set my list in stone anyway, just a rough guide of the best 20 boxers Ive ever seen enough of.
Mayweather gets **** on all too easily by so called fans, he SHOULD fight Cotto, Mosely & Pacquiao IMO but he is already a 5 weight champion with some good names on his record & lets not forget, he IS back & Im willing to give him the benefit of the doubt in that he WILL give us these legacy sealing mega-fights vs those great fighters.
He is the most talented of his generation, I feel he beats all of those guys personally but he must do it or coming out of retirement was pointless.

I hope he will get the credit he deserves as one of the greatest fighters who ever lived IF in fact he takes on those fights, no more excuses please... I for one will join you all in calling him every name going if he doesnt step up, lets wait & see tho, time will tell.

 

Nothing Mayweather has done in the past 3-4 years, or said recently suggests to me that he has any intention of stepping up.

 

You act like Mayweather has fought nobody, his talent is higher than his resume no doubt, Im not disputing that but anyone that doesnt see that he is one of the most gifted boxers ever, they are clueless IMO.

I never directly placed anyone over anyone, I really only ever have an all time top 9 that dont change, no10 changes all the time & Ive never attempted any list over 10 until this thread because my knowledge of the Canzoneri`s etc isnt that great & the Langford`s of the world will NEVER make my list due to the quality of footage factor.

Ps. please dont call him `money` ever again, I cringe at that ****.

Erik Morales will always be greater than Floyd Mayweather Jr to me...unless Floyd steps up. Damn, Erik fought the best at 122lbs, 126lbs, and 130lbs.
