Yeah, while Alcazar was the "top man" he took a back set and I liked the Oscar under Steward that went out there and gunned people out. Too bad he got rid of Steward and ended up with Gil Clancy.....:patsch

    quiet a few

but alcazar was always the main man

alcazars style of boxing suited oscar perfectly but he couldn't keep up with it in his later career.

Yeah, Alcazar got a little flustered at times. Alcazar was a 100% committed to Oscar though, he even flew out to Barcelona to help him in the Olympics.

He had Carlos Ortiz at one point, that didn't work out.
He had Wilfredo Rivero for quite long time, he helped touched up Oscar's defence quite bit but it didn't work out.
He had Emmanuel Steward for a few fights, who truly realised Oscars ferocity in the ring, that didn't work out.
He had Gil Clancy for a fight or two. That certainly didn't work out.
He had Floyd Mayweather Sr. Worked to a point but he was too inactive by the time he got old senior.
He had Freddie Roach, that didn't work out.
He had Nacho Beristain, that was about as successful as the Gil Clancy team up.
He had Angelo Dundee in the background for a fight, that didn't work our.

Then of course Robert Alcazar. With the help from Rivero and Steward this did work out despite Alcazar's insecurities and the tension that arose.

It's in American Son. I think it might have been twice, but Oscar's father despised Stewards training ethic. I'd have to look in American Son to find out but I didn't bring it to University with me.

My best bet would be the Leija, Tyson and Chavez fights in 1995 and 1996. Failing that he might have just had him for the David Kamau fight in 1997.

It's quite good. Completed before the Forbes fight. It has areas that clearly accommodate to Oscar's females audience where he talks about his 'feelings'. Naturally he's one of the biggest boxing phenomenons ever so it's quite the insight.

Tension was normally caused by Alcazar who was worried he was slowly being phased out, this ironically lead to him eventually being booted.

As for the Steward - Joel de la Hoya thing, Joel was pissed about the way the Steward allowed Oscar to have more time off to relax than any other trainer in his life had allowed him too. Oscar mentioned something about the way Steward held the pads so I think he may have just got rid of him because it pissed his dad off.
