i'm relatively new to mma, so i'm not aware of a lot of its history as far as past fighters go. also the fights and fighters i have seen have been almost totally from the ufc. i'd be interested in knowing who would be the top 10 ufc heavyweights/ light heavyweights of all time? also the top 10 heavyweights/light heavyweights of mma in general, from its history. if you can be bothered, maybe a comment or two about some of the fighters would be great. cheers.
If your talking in terms of career achievements then I'd go with something like.... Top 10 HW's 1.Fedor 2.Nog 3.Crocop 4.Barnett 5.Randy 6.Sylvia 7.Werdum 8.Coleman 9.Igor 10.Bas Top 10 LHW's 1.Shogun 2.Wanderlei 3.Chuck 4.Rampage 5.Machida 6.Arona 7.Randy 8.Lil Nog 9.Rashad 10.Hendo
i'm always reading that fedor is the best ever, how come he's not in the ufc? or has he been in the past? why is he so good?
Essentially Fedor made his mark in an organization called Pride, which is now desolved, during that time he beat the best for about 7-8 years and had only one tie during this period. When Pride folded, Fedor, who is pehaps the only fighters who uses a promotion company to negoiate through, signed with Strike Force and although he had negotiations with the UFC they never came to a financial agreement. As to how good he is/was just go onto youtube and watch a video of him and decide for yourself how good he is. I personally was floored by the type of opponents he fought and how he managed to win some of those bouts.
Fedor beat (litreally) a prime Nogueira when Nog was the man.Nog was a 'submission magician' and considered pretty much unbeatable at the time. Especially on the ground. But Fedor beat him silly whilst on the ground with vicious punches mainly from Nogs guard. To put that into context it's kinda like when Douglas beat Tyson in terms of the chances many observers gave him. And then beat him again. Also beat a prime Cro Cop when Mirko was exposing the flaws in MMA striking with a quick left head head kick. Mirko was the premier striker in all MMA at the time, but Fedor beat him on the feet. So he's beaten the best ground fighter and the best striker of his era, and made it look easy at times.
UFC heavys nowdays have allot of holes in their games, the same as the big monsters back in the early days of MMA. Brock lacks striking, Cain, JDS, Carwin lacks ground, Brock and Carwin lacks cardio and all are not as quick or as accurate with their punches and kicks. All of these guys also lack experience and a good K-1 level kickboxing. Fedor is one of the absolute best at sumbission, and also a very very good striker, he is experienced, proven, hits very hard, very agile and very hard to hit. Fedor [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yESEX6k-7Qk[/ame] versus Carwin (who people think has one of the biggest/best puncher in the UFC). [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6j5Je28-fCg[/ame] Just notice the difference in their footwork and their evasiveness. Fedor's sparring in that video always makes me lol, the guy in the headgear is a proper top class boxer, yet hes the one wearing a headgear.
Top 10 HW's 1. Ric Flair 2. Hulk Hogan 3. Bruno Sammartino 4. Triple H 5. Harley Race 6. John Cena 7. Bret Hart 8. Edge 9. Steve Austin 10.The Rock
