I just had an idea that might be some fun n spice up the forum a bit

why dont we (THE FORUM MEMBERS) put together a tournament..

im not sure how many fighters

but lets pick a weight class & pick the top 10-20 fighters (in prime form) from that weight class... and maybe even do it before a certain year (example: only boxers after 1975)

and rank them based on resume & accomplishments.. then just like march madness have the top seed fight the low seed and etc etc

    like if theres 10 boxers

    1 vs 10
    2 vs 9
    3 vs 8
    4 vs 7
    5 vs 6

then everyone votes to determine the results ...

might be a fun thing to do for positive discussion and forward thinking and can also determine who is some of the best fighters of all time...

    anybody interested?

if so lets start putting this thing together

I'm not interested in doing any post '75 tournaments. You'd be leaving out far too many worthy fighters.

    75 was just an example

but i felt by setting a date to it ... you could focus more on the fighters...

like i hate when people bring up all these old fighters ... post 1960's and ****

like people bring up fighters and the only thing to show of them in the ring is like 2 black and white clips and some pictures

i want to be able to actually break down the matchup fairly (youtube videos)
and not go by word of mouth (rocky marciano types)

There is more than enough footage of Marciano to properly break down his style, that much is obvious to everyone with a clue. Where are you even going with this?

I was trying to see what you meant by claiming there was little footage of Marciano when there is very clearly a lot. More than enough to analyze and decipher, which goes against what you so half-assedly said.

Why is color footage needed? What difference does it make? You don't want them brought up because you don't know a thing about them, therefore you wish to drag the rest of us down to your level? No thanks.

it has nothing to do with me...

everyone talking about athletes (boxing or any other sport) from another era is no fun.... no matter what the sport is although they were great in their era.... the athletes from 2-3 era's ahead of them will always be better because they had the advantage of learning from what the athletes from the past laid down

todays athletes will always be better than yesterdays due to advantages in training, technique, and advances in treatment...

so why compare... better off keeping the boxers relatively close

besides the average poster doesn't know much about yester-years boxer anyways... and if you have a problem with that just stay out my thread and make your own tournament with all the old ass fossils with no footage that burt sugar jerks off to...

the future is now... past is over..

    jmp..

thats was a general comment ...

there will always be exceptions to every rule....
for that specific example hearns probably beats pw

plus if the year is from 1975 on... hearns would probably be allowed to be included in the torny anyways

but say a tyson prime would probably obliterate a prime marciano... i mean athletes over time just become more & more athletic... because they expect out of themselves to out do the athletes of yesterday

50 years ago there was nobody jumping from farther than the free throw line to dunk because it was un-imaginable

50 years ago nobody was quarter back that was as fast and slick as mike vick.. it was unimaginable

or someone like lebron james who is 6 ft 9 250 and is faster & more athletic than almost everyone in the nba...

i dont know much about hockey or baseball but im sure it works the same way for those sports as well...

50 years from now in 2050 the athletes will be better than the athletes we grew up with now

    simple facts

if past generations were always better

that means a sport will never advance ... which is basically impossible

boxing is the only sport where people cherish the athletes of the past as much as they do because its an individualized sport and its the most rawest & prime way of human competition

    a fight...

thats why i dont want old fighters to be involved.... people judge more with their hearts & what they have heard through word of mouth then the actual skill & ability of the fighter

Ray Robinson would kick the ass of any fighter today at welter or middle.

Ezzard Charles and Archie Moore at Lightheavy.

    Eder Jofre at Bantamweight.

Carlos Ortiz or Ike Williams at lightweight.

If you have seen any footage of these fighters, you would agree.

It's different with boxing, new fighters are not by default better than older fighters.
