DDDDDDDIS DA HYPOCRITE ABOUT YOU! On topic, it was actually him against Bryant Brannon...I know Brannon isn't anybody but the fight itself was a total masterclass performance. The 1st round Brannon comes out and rushes Jones, who pretty much dodges every shot and counters his way out of the rush and drops Brannon. Then he unleashes some evil combination to put Brannon down in the 2nd...then STOPS punching, looks at the ref and says "You still want more of this?" The ref says keep fighting and Roy finally mercifully ended the fight with a picture perfect KO. It was just the sort of performance where Roy controlled everything and did everything that reminded you why he was the #1 P4P.
See - this is the point of the thread. Everyone has their RJJ favourites and every one of them are gooooood
The knockdown of Toney the rematch with Griffin and his destruction of Paz. So many great moments from a legendary fighter.
I'm a big Toney fan (like you wouldn't know it already) so I can't say that I enjoyed it, but Roys big win over Toney must be seen as his biggest accomplishment. Not Roys most entertaining performance, but considering the opponent he so clearly beat (altho Toney wasn't 100%) it must be seen as his best performance.
I'm a big Toney fan too, but sometimes fighters just come up against a force of nature that cannot be stopped. That's what RJJ was, in my opinion he would have beaten anyone in history at 168 that night, and I include the real old greats like Ezzard Charles in that. To master someone as good as Toney like that was special.
I think Roy actually was better around 19966 than he was in 1994. He seemed to learn a lot from the Hopkins (93) and Toney fights, and by 96 he was like 26-27 and at his peak. He was never going to be one of those guys who hit his prime in his 30s.
I agree....his destruction off Bryant Brannon was my favorite moment...gave me a glimpse of what Jones would've done to Glenn Johnson if they would've fought in Jone's prime. :good Brannon was undefeated too....Jones at 168 was the most dominant fighter I've ever seen.
My favorite Roy Jones moment was the interview with Merchant and Hopkins when they included Roy Jones in on the tv, right before one of his fights. The "60/40 I'll whoop dat ass interview" There's a point in that interview when Hopkins is TRYING to say something and Roy just laughs and shakes his head Pretty much ridiculing Hopkins weak attempt at the english language :rofl It's a subtle moment and probably missed by many, but a great frigg'n interview and for some reason thats the first thing that came to mind when I saw this thread. :good
"Yeah you do that for me Bernard and that would be very nice of you, and you probably take some good english classes...." :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl In response to B-Hop saying he's gonna force Roy out of boxing :rofl Roy Jones = The ****ing Man :yep
The best is the exchange they have something along the lines like this: Bernard- Roy I bet you thought I'd be gone by now. Roy- Where did I think you were goin? Bernard- You thought I'd be gone by now huh? Roy- Where did I think you were goin? Bernard- Hey Roy... Roy- Ey Bernard-....I bet you thought I'd be gone by now! Hopkins trying to intimidate Roy and Roy simply rolling his eyes and talking above him is a hidden highlight in itself
His interview after his rematch with Griffin. It just showed the level of intensity he did have, that he didn't always need to bring out.
