I'm a former wrestler and used to cut 15 lbs regularly. When I would rehydrate after weigh in's my weight would immediately shoot up 5-6 lbs. Thats why when I heard that Oscar weighed 147lbs on fight night I knew it was over. This talk of weight not mattering is a bunch of garbage from people who have never cut weight before. What do you guys think Oscar did wrong while cutting the weight? Would he have been better serverd hovering around 155-153 during training and drying himself out the last couple weeks to make weight as opposed to being dried out for months?
roach said that oscar might have made his stomach smaller in the process that he could not eat right after the weign-in. pac's conditioning coach was impressed with hoya's weight management but it could be superficial. he is right afterall. but not taking away from pac because i noticed from watching the replay that hoya did move normally during the first round but just can't match pac's speed and elusiveness.
I have never had to do it myself but from the little i know about it i would say drying out and 'killing himself' in the days before the fight then rehydrating after the weigh in would have been best. I understand that doing this affects your stanima but early on you are strong and Oscar would have been much heavier than the 147 he came in against Pac. Because he was on weight well before the fight something happened and he looked all dried out and weak...as if he couldn't rehydrate his body. I don't know the exact reason but i do know he looked awful saturday night right from the get go and perhaps doing it the usual way would have been better.
I think that it's pretty obvious that he had to cut into muscle weight instead of just fat and water weight like most fighters do. I too used to cut weight for wrestling and I know what you are saying.
****, I don't cut weight, I'm not even a big guy, but there's a 4lb. difference between when I wake up and after I have breakfast in the morning. could oscar have really trimmed down so far that he didn't even need to dehydrate to make weight? no.. that's not possible because during the 24/7 shows he weight in(post sparring) at 147 the day before Thanksgiving.
