step back in time a little

"Bernard Hopkins has put himself up there in the list of all the great middleweights. His 14th consecutive defense of his middleweight title. Trinidad a beaten man. He was beaten boxing, and then he was beaten physically. He was beaten with the smarts of Bernard Hopkins; he was beaten with the heart of Bernard Hopkins. What a performance!" - Larry Merchant

I respect him for what he has done, I respect him as a big champ in the past. I don't respect him in the present, cuz he lost balls lately. Avoiding good fights like Dawson, previously Adamek and covering himself and talking trash 'defeating them gives nothing'. Really ? I doubt. What gives him a lame victory over RJJ ? Completely nothing. Also he's a better actor than Tom Hanks, such one shouldn't lay on ropes after feathertouches and talking he saw 3xRoy after that, what would he do if Haye, his current dream matchup rival, punched him, would he cry and go home ? come on... If you're a champ, act like a champ, if you can't be a champ anymore, just retire.

Not only he did that as I have watched this fight up close and I will tell you that Bernard still has the footwork, the fitness and roughness and the punching finesse to outscore most young fighters out there if he is put to it.

It can always be a mistake to call time on Hopkins' career, as he's taught us time and time again, most recently, against Pavlik.

However, time eventually will have the final say; it's always a question of when, not if. And in boxing, we know that sometimes a fighter ages during a fight.

But we also know that sometimes, an ageing fighter has one last hurrah, turning the clock back in a fight. Hopkins has always risen to a challenge before; the better the opponent, the better his performance.

If he has the desire for one more big fight, bring on Dawson or Bute.

Trinidad was never a good middleweight. Hopkins was always good at beating up smaller great guys

That's what I'm sayin, baby. One more fight means either Bute or Dawson, not going suicidal at Haye at 200 plus pounds when he's 175 at 45! I've seen that fight against Roy in HD and it seems to me that Hopkins feints well and has the reflexes to capitalize on the feint and his opponent's split second mistake to score with his good technique. Now, put on perspective that that opponent is a high technical and flashy counter puncher in RJJ and there you have it that Hopkins can go at the best... Happens that he may tire and get old in one 12 rounder and he can't go down on low blows and rabbit punches often now... So father time may call him during his next fight, it depends on his opponents combination of success ( at catching him clean) and work rate.

god he beat the **** out of tito. i know tito blew joppy out and his power could be felt at mw but the size difference was very noticable. when both men circle and you see hopkins' back and then tito's back...you see how much bigger bhops frame is. tito couldnt put a dent in the ole fox and hopkins imposed his size and superior skill. he really did break tito down physically and mentally.

I disagree, I think Trinidad was at least a "good" Middleweight. In fact, given how he brutalized Joppy, Cherifi and Mayorga, I'd say he was a "very good" Middleweight and a great fighter overall.

NEWS FLASH JOPPY WAS NEVER A GOOD MIDDLEWEIGHT EITHER ..

The only real name on his resume was an over the hill ROBERTO DURAN !!

Joppy was one of the weakest middleweights ever ! This is why a 1 dimesnional Trinidad look like a beats against him then gets completly shut out by Borenard in one of his best fights ever .

Man the guy is 45, and you no longer respect him because he is not going after young guys and trying to prove he is the best!?? First off he should have retired after the Tarver fight (Like he promised his mom) and ended it there! Nothing since then has helped or hurt his legacy any...the win against Winky (I scored a draw) didn't do much for him, the SD (Not unanimous as many might think) loss to Calzageh (I had Hop's by a point) and UD over RJJ is about as useless as Clazaghes win over RJJ!

C'mon the man is 45 and merely fighting for paydays, not titles not names or anything else..I don't see how that should diminish his respect in spite of whether or not he is liked
