Allan Green declined $100 000 to face Bute on ESPN..

I read today in the Romanian press that according to Canadian newspapers, they payed Joppy $CAD 300,000:

"Ziarele canadiene au dezvăluit faptul că bursele celor doi pugilişti pentru acest meci au însumat un milion de dolari canadieni. Campionului mondial, românului Lucian Bute, i-a revenit 70 la sută din sumă, în timp ce Joppy s-a mulţumit cu restul."

translation: Canadian newspapers have revealed that the purse for the two fighters was one million canadian dollars. Bute took 70% and Joppy took the rest.

Have Canadian newspapers really revealed this?:huh Something lost in translation or made up stuff?


If these reports and figures are correct, InterBox offered Green only a third of what they payed Joppy because ...???...they considered Green a bigger risk than Joppy...which he obviously is, perhaps. Still...he wouldn't have been a great risk for Bute. So, why didn't they pay Green $CAD 300,000? Maybe Green would have taken it for that money. Green was a worse risk but also a better reward.:huh

We need to know more about the facts and figures before we call for Green's head on this, I think. As things stand, it's unfair to criticise Green.

Again, I think it's unfair to criticise Green, given what we know and what we don't know.

First of all, we were told he didn't take it because the money wasn't good. He said no to $100,000. We all said: he is crazy - he should have taken the title shot for a career best pay-day. We were right! Then, we hear he didn't take it because there was no US TV. So we say...OK...fair enough...and ask why Interbox couldn't arrange USTV. Then we hear ESPN only offered $30,000...so we say: fair enough...Interbox could get much more money from Canadian TV. Then we hear Bute got payed $700k and Joppy $300k, from two different sources in the Romanian press, both quoting Canadian journalists/Canadian newspapers (??). Then we say: why did Interbox not offer $300k to Green too - he might have taken the fight...Then we think: hang on a second...Bute + Joppy isn't worth $1m, is it? Couldn't have been that much...But Bute himself said the purse had 6 zeroes...didn't specify currency though...$CAD 1 = Lei 2.5 (Romanian Lei)...maybe he meant 1 mil in Romanian currency...??...but maybe he meant CAD!!!

All in all...we don't know for sure how much Joppy was payed. Nor do we know what other stuff Green wanted that Joppy didn't...maybe he wanted a rematch clause...who knows....??? So it is unfair to jump on Green's back and say: why didn't you take it? Also unfair to jump on InterBox's back given that we don't know what other special clauses Green wanted...

$100,000 is a career best pay-day for Green, but if Interbox thought $30,000 from ESPN didn't make sense, I can see why Green didn't take it...no American TV...big chance of losing...it also seems he is going through a hard time personally...we need to give him a break.

Let's talk about something else...like a potential Bute v. Lacy match in May...will InterBox put Bute against Lacy on HBO PPV?

 

Yeah...but InterBox think risk/reward like everyone else! Maybe they would dish out $300k for Joppy who only had a small puncher's chance...but would not dish out more than $100k for Green, who has a good puncher's chance and a 30% chance of beating Bute...assuming both would help them make up the same purse total.

Maybe it's special clauses....that Green wanted that Joppy didn't...we don't know...anyway...

Bute v. Lacy...apparently Americans think this is a very hard fight for Bute. They are prepared to give him a lot of credit for beating Lacy...

I am not sure Interbox and Bute would make even close to half of what they made against Joppy, whatever it really was, if Bute went on HBO PPV against Lacy...on the other hand...Bute could do with the exposure which would help him make an even bigger pay-day against Taylor, say, not to mention the credit, if he beat him...so...would Interbox agree if GBP were interested? We don't know that they are, or that Lacy would take Bute...he would be the underdog, after all...

I read Interbox were thinking of another gala in May in Montreal...this of course counts Lacy out...

 

Anyone know why Green looks down at his feet all the time?

He's going to get knocked out for that one day -- i'm suprised that Miranda didn't exploit that, but then again i'm not because Miranda sucks.

 

For one thing because Bute is much better than Miranda.

Nobody knows but what we do is he got at least 400 000$ for the fight with Joppy.

Don't be naive...

I'm glad Green didn't accept the offer because he would have cancelled that fight at the last moment too and Bute would have been left without a fight...looks like Joppy was a blessing in disguise.
