Green probably made a right move. After having 85% of his colon removed, the odds of him being 100% going into a Bute fight would have been low. Now, he should be fighting for a title shot. He deserves it. Whether he can beat Bute...well, that's a different story.
Bute is a hell of a fighter. If Green doesnt feel he is ready yet (especially after his health scare a little ways back), then let him get where he needs to be.
Or two? Hmmm...at SMW? Hmmm...so, will he take the WBO title from Kessler and one of IBF from Bute and WBC from, say, Froch? Or just Froch and Bute? Or do you think Mundine will fight him? It's very unlikely to be 2. In fact, I think it's very unlikely to be 1! We'll see!:good
It's called having a budget. I'm sure ESPN would have loved to have that fight if Bute (or Green) was willing to fight for free, but both fighters need to get paid, right? It would be a step backwards if he fights Miller, but Woods fought the fight of his live against Miller. I've seen Woods about 8 times now, and that was by far the best he's ever looked. Miller probably wins that fight 8 times out of 10. I'm sure Green is working on a title shot though. If I were a second-tier SMW, I'd be avoiding Bute too. Soon, the other belts are going to probably going be held by Mundine, Steiglitz and Inkin (or Froch). Green has a better chance of beating any of those guys than Bute, who's more fundamentally sound than any of them except maybe Inkin, and who has a better chin than any of them. If I were Green, I'd be targeting Bumdine, who he might have a chance of knocking out.
Flushing his career? The dude is only 28 and he's still on the comeback after having major surgery last year. Sounds like he's staying active as he builds himself back up. I never understand why so many people hate this guy so much. Maybe he's not a world beater, but he's not the "bum" or "joke" that some claim he is.
Espn turned down Bute-Green and went with Green-Miller instead? I'm sure there is more to it than simply prefering Miller as the opponent over Bute. Maybe it had something to do with..........money! Espn puts up what, $30,000/show. Hardly enough for a Bute-Green title match. As for Green fighting Miller instead of Bute. Maybe he's just not ready yet following his surgery. If he turns the fight down a year from now to face a Miller calibre opponent than yeah, bad move. For now it might be the best move for the time being. I'd imagine sometime in 08 Green will be in with a beltholder or top supermiddleweight contender. Green gets a lot of hate. Don't know why, he's not a bad fighter and comes off as likeable. Oh well. For and Espn fight he and Miller ain't bad either.
See, thing is...Bute doesn't make his money from what ESPN puts on the table! It wasn't InterBox who said NO to whatever offer ESPN would have made...nor was it Green, for that matter...:think
There wasnt enough money to televised the Bute fight, whether it was Allan Green or William Joppy. Mike Host, 'Toe2Toe' www.theknockoutnetwork.com
