Well, I don't know that. What did Green do in the last 2 years to make you so sure. You're a big fan of him, that's ok. Just don't be so sure. Maybe if Green fights a good boxer, we could watch him and make up our mind?
Miranda was ranked #2 by WBA before the Abraham fight. He dropped out since they were not sure where his future lies (175lbs or 168lbs). He will pop back in the top 10 for sure anytime now.
When does a #2 ranked fighter disappear from the ranking completely when they lose to an undefeated champion? He should have dropped somewhere between 8-15. Thats how it works. I talked to his team about this subject and they have recently been in touch with the sanctioning bodies who dropped him to let them know his plans.
Edison was never a top ten, let alone the #2 fighter in any division. Now before you get all up in arms and quote specific proof of him having been ranked as such, let me just tell you to settle down. Relax, have a Sprite, and recognize that no matter how he was ranked, I repeat: Edison was never a top ten, let alone the #2 fighter in any division. :yep
Name 10 above him at middle weight when he campaigned there? He made it further against Pavlik than many and as far as Taylor in P/T 1 in fact. No?
Um, technically I guess. The Pavlik fight honestly could have been stopped in the first round. It was about as competitive as DLH-Pac, Mosley-Margarito, Mijares-Arce, etc. The only thing that obscures that fact is Pavlik's terrible defense and the fact that a half-hearted arm punch would occasionally find him and give him a little peck on the cheek. You can make a case for Edison anywhere in the top ten pre-Pavlik at middleweight, as it wasn't particularly loaded at the top (and aside from a few names still isn't really), but to say he was a clear #2 (or clear anything in the top ten) is wrong. I was one of his biggest supporters on here pre-Pavlik and I didn't consider him yet primed for (or deserving of, as a #2 or virtually any top ten ranking would indicate) world title contention after his bounceback run of Gibbs/Green.
You honestly think 168 is that great? Maybe a few more names at the top for sure, but not that many. I'd think Miranda would give Froch and Balszey a good fight. The Froch fight would be a chin check contest for sure for both guys. I don't think Froch has Abraham's power. Not even sure about Kelly's to be honest. I see Miranda landing on Froch the way both guys like to brawl. I think it would be better than the Pascal fight.
The only reason that Miranda was ranked highly with the WBA was that Mogens Palle arranged to have him bumped up to make him eligible to fight Kessler for the title that Mundine had vacated. When Miranda decided to fight Abraham instead they dropped him back out. So, yeah, I guess he might not have to fight anyone to get rated high enough to be a mandatory for Froch. Not sure whether Mick Hennessy holds that kind of sway with the WBC though.
Well, the ABC's have made a joke out of the rankings. The idea of working your way up the rankings has the added benefit of keeping a fighter from a beating for a payday.
I am not trying to debate where Miranda should be ranked. Someone said he needs to beat someone decent to get ranked so a fight with Froch could happen. My point, and only point, was he does not need to fight anyone to have that ranking. As quick as it was taken away it can come back. Like Hermit said, it is all bull**** and about the money. Fightnews is probably one of the better rankers. The Ring is not bad but even it is tarnished since it is owned by GB. Yea, I think Miranda should be top 10. I think he could beat anyone below the top fighters I mentioned earlier, except Andrade may be a tough win do to his style.
And to say he was never a top #2 in any division is just plain stupid. Before Pavlik he was #2 across the board at MW and rightfully so. Not many people saw Pavlik pulling off the upset. It was to be Taylor vs Miranda in most people's book, and that would have been a pick em if he had gotten past Pavlik. But that didnt happen. Still doesnt take away the rightful #2 MW ranking he held.
And when he does speak he calls out every other top fighter around him besides the one who beat him. I'm not understanding that one..
