I believe he stated that he counted 5 accidental headbutts, not that Ward butted Kessler 5 times. There is a difference since one obviously allows that either Kessler or both fighters were equally to blame for some of them, while the other puts the blame squarely on Ward.

And no, there were no elbows. There were short punches that may have looked like elbows to you, but there were none. Kessler said nothing about elbows, Sauerland said nothing about them, the commentators didn't, there are no replays showing them, Kessler never reacted as if he had been elbowed...sorry friend, didn't happen.

Funny thing is which one of the judges in the Froch Dirrell fight was from the USA??? Did you hear us bitching about that??? Not one judge from the USA in that fight, nor was the Ref.

Stop cring and accept the fact that Kessler was dominated and move on.

 

Of the ACTUAL judges for the fight, one was American. I couldn't care less who the judges might have been, that's who they were. Sauerland ultimately signed off on the judge swap and the ref. If they felt it was such an egregious disadvantage they should have taken the belt off the line, as they threatened to. They stated that they were satisfied with the changes made. They grossly underestimated Ward, went in expecting to KO him, and were unpleasantly surprised when Ward made it a fight.

In any case, it's a tournament, and we could very well see the situation you describe at some later point. If Ward and his promoter sign off on it then all you can say is "they probably shouldn't have done that". The judges ended up being irrelevant and the worst thing that any sane person has said about the ref is that he should have penalized for the headbutt, but that Kessler was getting whooped regardless.

If he was afraid of having an unfair disadvantage why did he get in the ring. He could have said no. And waited until they gave him a neutral line up of officials. Funny he loses then complains would he have said a thing had he won

 

Kessler got headed butted, and you can make a legitimate argument that like the one in tenth round it seemed intentional-Ward weather it was the headbutts or not, he roughed him up. However, with or without the rough tactics he (Kessler) would of lost. I think his own arrogance (feeling he was superior), lack of training (not sparing enough, and not sparring with southpaws), among other things cost him the match. It's a good reality check and wake up call for Kessler. I think he'll bounce back against Froch.

Correction. The Ref said there were five accidental headbutts. He never said who caused them. And looking at the replay, three out of five of them were mutual headbutts - that is, they bumped into each other.

I just rewatched the fight.

Ward comes in with his head first from round 2 -11. He headbutts Kessler 4 times as i se it. And he holds while hitting the entire fight.

Dont run away from Ward being very, very dirty.

I mean - he was the better man, but he was extremely dirty and won the fight because of the head butts which caused Kesslers cuts.

If it wasnt for the headbutts the fight could have been very different. Kessler complains after round 5 that he cant see. Just after one of the head butts.

Even the American commentators reffered to Ward as Billy the goat.
