Allegedly and DeGale split

Fury's not ready for a Klitschko yet - so I don't see Chisora fighting Vitali as a setback for Fury. He's 23 and he's a prospect. C5 have been rumoured to be encouraged by the viewing figures they've got, but it's up to Mick and C5 to draw up the plan for Fury over 2012/2013 and find the funds to achieve it.

I agree that he needs to step up his competition, partly because Fury seems the type to perform better against better opponents. But I don't blame Mick for not trying to lure a Helenius or Povetkin over to fight Fury at this point when he's not ready.

Even if Mick could afford DeGale, I think he should avoid that. He might get attention if C5 bill him as an Olympic Gold Medalist but, like you said, he's not got an attractive style. Ideally, C5 and Mick are probably looking to put on 'exciting' fights on Saturday nights that attract casual viewers sitting at home or down the local pubs and social clubs. DeGale doesn't really fit the mould.

 

DeGale has to get head down, keep quiet and box. He is worth signing as long as the promoter isn't paying him ridiculous amounts. I dunno what DeGale will want or demand or accept.

Is he worth signing?. IMO i would but i wouldn't sign him for money Frank had him on.

I'd agree. It'd be different if he was more well known and people were willing to pay to see him get beat up and lose, but he isn't and they won't. Plus that'd already fall flat a bit as he's already lost to Groves. But the problem with going down that route with DeGale is that he seemed genuinely hurt that he was the 'villain' during and after the Groves fight. I've got no doubts about him exaggerating some of the stuff towards Groves to hype the fight, but I don't think he realised just how much it annoyed fans - I don't think he expected quite the backlash he received.

Without dragging this into a racial or religious discussion, it's just as ignorant to say "all terrorist suicide bombers are Muslim, innit" too - as, just like Judaism and Christianity, there are different sects of Islam.

I don't think there's neccesarily any prejudice in saying that the majority of suicide bombings in modern years - that the British press and public are aware of anyway - have been perpetrated by Muslims. And the obvious stereotype of a Muslim is an Asian Muslin. I think it verges into prejudice when folk imply or outright say that all Muslims are like that and ignore the various different sects of Islam etc, but you didn't say owt like that.

Having thought about this, im not really sure what Degale does now.

- America? Would be a terribly bad option for Degale ATM, yeah he could sign with GBP, TR or the likes of them, be spoon fed a couple of easy fights for 2012 but he'll still end up coming unstuck when they try to throw him in with a proper name at some stage in the forseeable future (Johnson, Abraham, Kessler etc). Add to the fact he's not known outside of the UK so no fanbase, and Americans will only really care about their own in that division (Ward & Dirrells).

- Matchroom? Sky sports deal makes this move favourable, also the potential of having an all british 'super' fight vs Froch, but i can see that ending badly for Degale so he'd be back to square one if that happened.

- Hennessey? For all the good he did for Froch in getting him a title shot and into the super 6, Froch was able to capitalise on his opportunites to make himself a household name. Yes Hennessey has some kind of deal with Ch.5 which will get Degale more viewers, but im sure alot will be tuning in to see him lose. Also would he really want to sit around and only fight on Fury cards? Im sure he wants to be 'the man' rather than playing second fiddle to anyone else.

- Stay with Fwank? Never bite the hand that feeds you. Would have to eat humble pie and apologise. Problems will still remain that he's only being seen on BN and nowhere near enough, he needs to be way more active at this stage. Still has the potential of having a 2nd Groves fight, but i can see FW putting that on the backburner for now. After the 1st groves fight, FW could've easily pushed him to the bottom of the pile and said "work your own way back up now" but pulled off a masterstroke getting him a euro title shot. But if he stayed with FW, theres the lingering doubts over payments, BN long-term future, also will FW now try to make George Groves the star as Degale seems to have played his hand too early and shown himself to be unloyal?

- Self Promotion? As someone else mentioned, that backfired miserably when Audley tried it. Degale doesnt have a 'likeability' about him so i cant see the british public taking to Degale in the same manner that they did with Hatton for example.

Either way, i think he's opened up a can of worms now, what would you do if you was him?

 

No boxer under contract can leave if and when they feel like it,James has been well looked after by his team and imo would do well not to forget it.

 

thats the thing billy - a contract runs 2 ways. If the rumours are true about not being paid his contracted amount, its clear who breached first
