Off of the back of this his reward is headlining the 02. We can be pleased for him but it doesn't detract from the fact that it is just totally wrong, he hasn't earned it at all, especially not in the ring. This content is protected
Allan’s. Last opponent was ko’d by a guy 3-3 ffs and went life and death with allan, now we’ve to beleive he’s Ppv This fight isn’t worthy a top of the bill on a normal Saturday fight night
Joshua, Callum Smith, Kell Brook, Amir Khan etc. all fighting in the USA next while we have Dave Allen headlining a show domestically. Adam Smith must be drowning a few kittens this morning to make himself feel better.
If it's true it's totally undeserved, but shows you the power of marketing yourself well as a boxer on social media. It's not really my humour, but he's got a reasonable following now who show interest in his career. In some ways its good that he might be able to make more casual fans interested in domestic level fights (when they usually watch World Title events). Dave has a responsibility to take this seriously - he's turned up for big fights totally unprepared several times and this blows my mind. I think @Twentyman's excellent post about Allen being prepared of giving his best but it not being enough is true. If he doesn't train properly he has a ready made excuse. Overall though, I would like to see him do well, because he seems like quite a nice guy.
Luke Campbell being used as a “show filler” in a “keep busy” fight over there too. Surely should be on the April 30th card.
Eddie Hearn contributed hugely to the boxing boom in the U.K. Pulling in some superb fighters for us to enjoy...the likes of Crawford, GGG, Klitschko, Usyk etc Now, incredibly through DAZN, he’s facilitating the many big match ups (involving British fighters) being fought in America, padding out bills over there. The big fights over here are drying up. There’s currently no big name, exciting fights coming up in the U.K. The Josh Taylor fight might not even be happening (not blaming Hearn for that ha!). So what have we got instead, Liam Smith vs Sam Eggington...Dave Allen vs Lucas Browne and Frank Warrens equally uninspiring cards. Boxing’s booming in the U.K. my backside.
Looks like penny may finally have dropped for Allen judging by his Twitter looks as if actually trained for this fight, looks in preety decent shape working with Darren barker . Maybe realises how fortunate he has been to get away with being in awful shape and try make most of limited ability
How is Joshua v Wilder better than this fight? Two likable gents, great personalities, good stories, both know they are not the best but are ready to put everything on the line for the fans. Compared to the dull bodybuilder (and a racist POS) and the windmilling village idiot (another racist POS) with massive egos and unlikable characters who are impossible to work with.
Really enjoyed listening back to the Boxing Life Stories with Dave Allen (and Dom Ingle). He genuinely believes he has what it takes to be a top 10 fighter.
The social media hype of Allen is now in overdrive with his young fans who think because he's funny on twitter he's a not far off a world title, I don't mind Allen he's honest and funny. But like you say the power of social media hes kidded people and got himself big fights headlining now. Eddie ain't daft eh.
It was nailed correctly in a previous post. Afraid to truly live the life in case he fails and has no excuses! This is also why he's unafraid to take ludicrous fights like Ortiz at a week's notice - because you've nothing to lose in these circumstances, especially if you have an iron chin and are unlikely to get outright KO'd Price style. I like Allen but he is infuriating, and I stopped following him on Twitter after the 1st Lenroy Thomas fight because he really, really squandered that opportunity with stupid non-existent tactics and being horribly out of shape. He was a bit unlucky in the second fight, but there shouldn't have been a second fight to begin with. For all the sh!t Hearn gets I think he's been more than fair with Allen. Sure he was thrown to the wolves with Ortiz, but he got that totally undeserved second Lenroy Thomas fight, whom it cost about 300k to fetch back from across the Atlantic. If Allen he was truly serious about Boxing he'd be calling out: Daniel Dubois Hughie Fury Joe Joyce … using his disproportionately large media profile to leverage these contests because these are his ticket to the next level. Problem is, if you lose to these and lose bad, it might be over! And he knows that. Which is why it's easier to fight: A) Bums you knock out in a round B) Near or actual elites there's no shame in losing to. To be fair Lucas Browne is a good fight for him. I just hope he turns up focussed and in shape.
