I'm still not convinced that bute can go a hard 12 rounds, so the jury does still remain out on his stamina. However, the guy in this division who's star is shining brightest right now still would not provide the recipe to defeat bute. Bute's stance and range alone would disadvantage ward. But the attribute that would negate alot of wards offense is lucian's stance. He fight out of an awkward southpaw stance with a quick flickering jab and powerful left. Both as a straight and as a vicious uppercut. Ward likes to leap in and get a guy on the backfoot and unload, and with kessler it worked. But lucian moves in subtle angles and can counter back. Ward may very well find himself the mouse in a cat&mouse game. Dirrell would'nt engage and would have less success than ward. AA won't test bute's main weakness in stamina, and might get perfectly executed in a clinic. Froch could provide pressure and makes bute work very hard, but would get hit with big counters that are coming from a true supermiddle hitter. I used to hear most people pick kessler over bute if they ever fought, and i just listened. But i knew that if bute had the toughness and fortitude that he was the best SMW on earth. After the andrade fight i fell off the wagon. The ? on bute is his fortitude. He didn't redeem that tonight. The question is though, is who at 168 is going to provide us the style to beat bute.
I know Pavlik's stock is at an all-time low, to say the least...but I think he would be very live in that fight provided he is fit and healthy.
It's a very good point. If he's able to recover to pre-Hopkins levels, then Pavlik would likely give Bute quite a hard time. He wouldn't be favored certainly, but live dog status is appropriate.
If Bute keeps throwing that short, compact left hook at his opponents, he won't have to go 12 rounds. Wow.
And basically, Pavlik is the best guy to do what the TS asks. Pavlik has a very long jab that would test Bute and set up offense whereas Andrade just comes flying in without method, and he throws a volume of heavy technically correct punches for 12 rounds. He doesn't leave himself completely open like Andrade, nor is he wild, he's pretty calculated in the way he puts on pressure. In terms of pure pressure Pavlik would be one of the best exponents of that without leaving himself a sitting duck like..say, Froch.
I think Pavlik is too slow and predictable for a guy like Bute. At 168, Pavlik's power is not the same and he can't dictate the pace of the fight either. I think Bute counters Pavlik all night and possibly stops him also.
I agree...i actually think that Kessler has the style to beat Froch, but Strangely enough, i think Froch has the style to beat Ward and Bute. Boxing: " The theater of the unexpected..." Thanks for the quote, Merch!!
Carl Froch will get demolished on this very board after his loss to Kessler..just wait and see ! He already has accomplished more than his skills should have allowed him too...
Pretty much. Froch is one dimensional. What has kept him alive is his mentality. Sooner or later Froch will take his rightful place at the bottom of the elite SMW hierarchy.
Bute would pull a Dirrell on Froch, but in much more convincing fashion because it would be done much cleaner. He's too fast and cagey for Froch who, despite what people here seem to think, isn't really a pressure fighter anyway.
