I know that most people here think that Gomez is going to get flattened by just looking at this record-- but for those who saw The Contender and watched Gatti-Gomez, what outcome do you predict?

I don't want to here Cotto fans bragging on about how their boy is gonna tap that ass. I just want the people with real knowledge about Gomez to give predictions/analysis based on what they know about his power, skill, ability, style, etc.

Cotto should easily walk through Gomez. Gomez hasn't been in with someone near Cottos level. And Gomez is just starting his 12 rounders. And he's only had two 10 round fights.

He's inexperienced. List fisted, and just simply not good enough.

Gomez will be completely broken down by the 8th or 9th round and be stopped on a bodyshot. Gatti was shot and too weak when he fought Gomez.

Gomez is a solid fighter. 147 suits him much better because he isn't overweight and fighting much bigger men. I'd say he's a top 25 guy. Decent boxing skills - he can fight effectively from the outside and on the inside. Good arsenal of punches to the body and the head. I think he's pretty tough too. He seems to have a good chin. Another thing I like about him is his punch output and fighting spirit.

Cotto does everything better though. He is more skilled, better defensively, a better puncher, a more powerful puncher, and more experienced. Gomez is C class while Cotto is a P4P elite. I see Cotto putting pressure on him, landing the cleaner and much more effective punches. I have doubts about Gomez's ability to take it to the body and he lacks the skill to take away Cotto's left hook to the ribcage. Because Cotto has defensive vulnerabilities, Gomez will have some moments where he catches Cotto with right hands, uppercuts, or left hooks. But he doesn't have the kind of power to make Cotto have second thoughts about coming in or the power to seriously hurt him. Ben Tackie was hitting Gomez quite a bit, so he's lucky it wasn't Cotto in there with him.

Cotto can really beat him any way he wants. He can either outbox him or outbrawl him. I suspect he'll do a little bit of both during the fight and wear Gomez down, stopping him around before the 6th.

In short, a methodical beat down of a fringe contender (at best)

Gomez is an entertaining fighter, and he seems like a good guy, but he's going to get the beating of a lifetime. Heart will only take you so far, and that's really all Gomez will have going for him against Cotto. He doesn't bring anything to the table that will trouble Cotto. He's not that fast, not much of a boxer, doesn't have a lot of power. He can brawl a bit but brawling with Cotto is going to get him nowhere fast. Cotto is at least three levels above Gomez. Expect Cotto to impose his will early, hook to the body and finish things off in five rounds or less.

I think Cotto stops him in rounds 6-9. depending on what kind of shape Gomez comes in. I think Cotto's Jab will be a full display during the Gomez fight and Cotto will have mucho success with his body attack.

i really think this fight is for the casual fans who are just hearing cotto's name being mention at the top after beating mosley. they are going to get to see what theyre looking for when cotto destroys this guy. the real fight here is definitely the undercard

It's great that the season 1 contenders have gone on to get some pretty serious fights...except, of course, the Latin fake contender "champion."

I watched the Contender, and have seen every Gomez fight after, i think he will get stopped within 8.
