alvarez can't finish a dazed punching bag. pathetic! a dreadful main event. two non-prospects try to outstink each other.
Agreed ... Alvarez shouldve finished Rodriguez ... a real top fighter wouldve jumped on him once he showed hurt and knocked him out ... Both of these guys are shitty and this should be a draw --
Rodriguez is going to be a sacraficial lamb for some elite fighter ... rather it be a mandatory defense or a coming off of a loss ... he seems easy to beat ... he keeps his chin in the air and he doesn't pack that big of a punch ... add to that he lacks elite speed and movement. This Alvarez guy is going to turn into a stepping stone --
lol we're on the same page fitzgerald. as soon as he faces someone elite, im betting big on the opponent by KO. if a sloppy slapper like alvarez can stun him, think of what any elite welterweight would do to him. it would surely be a KO of the year type, where he falls flat like a pancake.
alvarez is just too nice, too passive. personality wise hes like kassim ouma, and in the ring he reminds you of ishe smith. very tough guys to root for.
So if neither guy has elite potential it isn't worth watching then huh? I thought it was a decent fight, the 12th round was exciting. but yeah, Alvarez can't finish to save his life. I think Rodriguez has some tallent, I think it showed after he hurt his wrist, he started fighting better. But in the end his chin won't hold up to anyone near the top of the division.
Rodriguez would be a good opponent for someone like Andre Berto right now. Berto needs to polish up his game right now before he steps into the ring with the big boys and a guy with some skill and flaws like Rodriguez would be a perfect opponent. He'd give Andre good work, but wouldn't be too dangerous to face.
He would be a good opponent for an elite fighter coming off a loss or as a mandatory challenger for one of the titlists. But he's like a Jason Litzau minus the power ... he's very chinny and will get knocked out. Alvarez wasn't a power puncher but had him on ***** street ... if he could've pulled the trigger ... he wouldve been the winner. Both of these guys fall in the category of title challengers ... I can see Rodriguez fighting the loser of Clottey v Cotto ... or something like that ... he's from NJ and both of those guys fight in the NY ... He'll either get caught up in the moment under the bright lights or just get flat out KO'd because he can't stand the rain.
Yeah, I thought it was a decent fight, too. These guys are not world class, but it doesn't mean they can't put on an entertaining fight. If Rodriguez's chin wasn't so shaky, he could probably be a contender, but with those whiskers, he'll get taken out by anybody any good.
