I'm sometimes guilty of overrating what appears to be great but i'm not usually wrong about boxers and i feel alvarez is in serious danger of being overhyped particularly on ESB.There is no denying the-irishman-pretending-to-be-mexican-lookalike has great potential and excellent punch power but i believe he still has alot to work on before he deserves the plaudits he is currently receiving. He is is only 20 afterall but that is more of a reason to slow down the praise and allow him to develop as i feel his defense is poor in comparison to other fighters and he needs to improve his blocking of punches. He is also slightly flat-footed and i feel more movement would serve him well, especially considering his hand-speed is not among his best attributes.

my point in short is that stop claiming Dawson,Pavlik and others are hype jobs on the forum while nobody seems to notice that the same thing is being brought upon Alvarez who has yet to display his full repertoire

    feel free to disagree

He's also in danger of becoming a huge success. He might make a dangerous amount of money too.

Freddy is Mexican. As if that wasn't obvious. He will flip his **** if you say anything remotely negative about a Mexican fighter. That's just him, he's not going away, deal with it.

As for people talking smack about supposed hypejobs on ESB... it's ESB. Some people on here call Joe Frazier a bum. :patsch

no, he doesn't have a ****en point...you can easily say that about any fighter, and if i'm not mistaken, there is always some ******* in here saying that about anybody and everybody......

at 19yrs of age he has done more than almost everybody in the sport right now...the kid is slowly but surely building his fanbase...there is no "canelo tko manny or floyd" threads so why this talk of the kid being overhyped ?????

why cant we just enjoy our fighters instead of making stupid "obvious" threads like this one.....if mutha****az wanna talk boxing, then talk boxing....but dont start a thread that can basically be said about any fighter...it's ridiculous....

There is a danger of over hype but we also have to understand that this is only natural when someone so young shows so much promise.

I can see it from both sides.

The Baldo win for someone so young is a good win and he seems to be one of the more well rounded fighters in the ring for someone of his young age so he deserves a lot of credit for this. Add in to the fact he has good physical qualities and intangibles (power, speed, chin, toughness, heart) then it is understandable that people should be touting him as a potential future world champion and even future star.

However we do need to keep a level of realism here. He does have some faults (like most young fighters) and whilst he is a good, solid, well rounded fighter with the other qualities i stated above, i see nothing spectacular about him.

I think if we looked at it objectively the position Alvarez is in at the minute is of someone who has made good inroads into his career and is at a level that most boxers at his age are not so this is a good position for him. However this does not gaurante a future p4p champion like some are saying. He does need to still work on his game but if he keeps training hard and improving like he has then he has the chance to achive some good and even great things in boxing.

Overrated if you crown him right now, underrated if you judge by the Cotto fight. Funny because a year and a half ago just a few outside of Mexico knew about him and now he's like mainstream. But he was already facing difficult opposition and showed both potential & weaknesses before becoming internationally recognized.

Canelo is a very popular top young prospect who's improving fast, but still work in progress, that's who he is.

I dont see anyone saying he is p4p number 1.

What is it with the Canelo hate? The kid shows promise and people have to hate on him. This kid is fighting fighters that are on the same level Berto a champion has been fighting and he is only 19. Not to mention he is learning on the job since he really didnt have the amateur upbringing alot of top prospects have.

    ignorant ???
isn't it true what i said....imagine how many idiots thought manny pacquiao was flawed, and thought he was never gonna make it....

i'm just saying..talk about the fighters/fights, why say some ****en obvious **** to try and discredit a fighter with a statement that can basically be said about any fighter...
