I don't know about that. He was the underdog and without smart bettors and sharks would have been a much more dramatic underdog. The clear majority on this forum was picking against him, with a large chunk of them giving Canelo no chance at being competitive in what was his second ever fight above 155 lbs. He was very competitive. Close fight that most scored and averaged out at 115-113 for Golovkin. Canelo def didn't get slapped around. Based on expectations, I would imagine the vast majority would say the opposite.

You know what they say, styles make fights. Also, despite what Canelo said, GGG is a monster at the weight, his style is constant pressure, his power and technique are very good, even if he's not flashy or slick, and he's clearly next to impossible to stop. So to say Canelo just got slapped around is a bit simplistic. He fought with a decent game plan, just got overrun particularly in the middle rounds.

No. Canelo landed the harder shots. G was credited for range finding, pity pat jabs mostly.

Canelo countered better. He was better defensively. He actually hurt G with that one-two combo. He landed the better uppercuts. He made G tentative. He frustrated G more.

G just pressed the action but he didn't go to the body. I didn't see power that can KO heavyweights nor did I see any real ring generalship. Just saw an overrated volume puncher. You guys will somber eventually about what really went down.

Yes good point about styles makes fights,I thought Canelo was superb and against anyone else he'd of done very well,I reckon he'd beat Spence if they ever came together.
Some folk just can't give either guys credit so you have one group who keep insisting that Canelos the better boxer and refuse to give GGG credit for shutting him out after three rounds and then those that just won't give Canelo any credit because he was on the back foot,I thought Canelo was awesome but he was just outworked by Golovkin who proved to everyone that he is elite and when he can't get the KO he can Box his way to a decision albeit the wrong one lol.

Classic case of seeing what you wanna see,you should see what Paulie M had to say about that fight and whilst I never had it as wide as he did he said that Canelo was on the ropes cause GGG put him there cause that folks is how it works,I do feel that if Canelo were allowed to get off in the last 30 secs of each round the result would of been different but again you can't even give Golovkin any sort of praise for that can you?
Perhaps it's no surprise that the only folk who had it for Canelo was those with an agenda so Hopkins,Oscar and Floyds dad are hardly reliable are they,so many who thought Canelo would win came out and said Golovkin won it.
You must score fights different to the consensus cause look if you really have to try your upmost to find rounds for someone you'll probably find it and another quote from Paulie was that if you had Canelo winning that then you had McGregor winning Floyd prior to the stoppage.
I actually had it very close on the night but on a rewatch those last three rounds I thought Canelo did something on reflection it was only the first half a minute of each round and then he just let GGG back in again.
You may be right about stand out shots and overall skill even but boxing doesn't always reward this so for GGG you have the more dominant jab, work rate, gas tank, constant pressure and lastly heart and if you can't even give Golovkin this much you're just hating the guy who should of been handed the win and was robbed.
I'm not sure if Canelo will do the rematch straight away after this as he fought as well as I've ever seen him and yet still fell short, unless he can sort out his fitness and stamina and possible weight issues he'll fall short again.

Canelo fought scared from the moment that first bell went. A shame because he's better than that.

We need to give Golovkin credit fighting in that style at 35 against an elite fighter. Astonishing effort really.

He was never gonna stand n trade over twelve rounds with that monster but that said I never thought he fought scared,he was on the ropes cause GGG put him there,if anything he did well to not get cut off like so many of GGGs opponents, think how Jacobs got dropped and trapped.

Let's just give credit to Golovkin. He walked down a prime elite fighter for 12 rounds ffs.

    He's 35 years old.

I remember the time when Marvin Hagler got slapped all around the ring by Golovkin for three and a half rounds before Hagler had to rest on his knee for a 90-count.

    Lmao.

Who caused more damage to G?
    Canelo

Who took more damage from G?
    Jacobs

Who nullified G's power more successfully?
    Canelo lmao

Who eluded/slipped/blocked G's punches (especially on the ropes since we want to say Canelo ran)more successfully?
    Canelo

What are we arguing here lol

The last 3 rounds were not all Alvarez. As a matter of fact, it can be argued that GGG won 10 and 12
