Canelo dictated where the fight was most times of the fight. He was supposed to be flat footed, and he used good movement throughout, especially early on.. when he wanted it on the ropes he took it there too... why because he's a natural counter puncher, that's his comfort Zone... How many times was GGG really effective while Canelo was slipping on the ropes? Not many, so that's not a general.

Nobody WANTS it on the ropes with Golovkin.

Fighting against Golovkin off the ropes = :b2: Canelo got tagged big time there and he needs to drop the idea that he can fght GGG off the ropes. He's going to get himself into big trouble.

Where I will give Canelo credit is that his general foot movement is far better than it used to be. He's obviously worked damn hard at it and it paid off. Now while I'd rather see GGG / Saul 2 going at it "Mexican Style" logic says that if Canelo can improve his gas tank and challenge Golovkin more centre ring, while sticking and moving he'd do better.

He actually looked good centre ring; he got facked up on the ropes.

Did we watch a totally different fight? Or am I overrating Canelo's centre ring work and underrating his work off the ropes?

Plz... Canelo held GGG to his lowest connect% at 31 percent.. That's a lot of missing going on

I'm not questioning Canelo's defence. It's world class.

I'm questioning whether he was more successful on the ropes or in centre ring.

    Fixed it.

I'm not talking about the fringe 10%. You've always got That Guy who argues a lost cause.

I'm talking about the mainstream 90% that say GGG beat Canelo. That's the consensus.

I was away on the night of the fight and waited for the replay to formulate my own opinion.

I scored the fight 7 to 5 for Golovkin and felt that score should not be controversial, at all.

IMO, it was close, but clear. I was very close to scoring it 8 to 4.

I felt Golovkin won the fight by making Canelo fight his fight. I also felt that how Golovkin fought was planned; Sanchez was telling him to stay on Canelo and not let him rest. That was achieved.

While I was as disappointed as the next guy that Golovkin was not throwing bombs or working the body, I pretty quickly realized that he didn't have to in order to win. I also realized he was cutting risk by not being drawn into a fire fight- which, I think, is exactly what Canelo was prepared for.

By the end of Round 10, Golovkin had banked enough rounds, at least with me, to win the fight.

    Thoughts Following the Fight:

    Great fight.

I'd like to see Canelo impose an immediate re-match, but do not believe he will.

Alternately, I would like to see Canelo fight Jacobs or Lemieux, but do not believe he will.

I'd like to see Golovkin get to fight BJS, before having to do anything else.

I'd really like to see Adelaide Bird investigated.

My strongest opinion about this match is that uneven drug testing should never be allowed in professional boxing. If PEDs are illegal, then they must be tested for. When a fighter refuses drug testing, or negotiates their way out of it, it forces me to believe they are hiding something. I hate that my opinion of Canelo is now shaded by this belief.

Canelo goes to the ropes to take a rest. That's not ring generalship, that's poor stamina.

Canelo reduced GGG to a jabber, that is not Golovkin style.

Even against Lemieux where GGG used the jab effectively he landed 50% of his power punches but Canelo not only made Golovkin miss most of his punches and reduced him to 32% of power punches landed but he also landed at a higher percentage 42% and clearly was more consistent landing the cleaner more telling power punches.

Golovkin was the aggressor, but aggression is scored if its more effective than your opponents offense, which clearly was not as Canelo landed the more telling blows more consistently.

It was a close fight, and I predicted before the fight that it was a 50/50 fight with Canelo having a very slight edge, and that's how the fight played out.

I had Canelo clearly winning rds 1-3, I believe rd 6, and rds 10-12.
