First off, both guys get props in my book. But this is a case of Alvarez's balls being bigger than his brain, and here's why:

Floyd wanted an Alvarez fight ASAP because the longer he waits, the more of a chance Alvarez has to upset him because they're on two different career arcs right now. It was genius of Floyd to get Canelo before that window shuts and he'll still be a massive favorite.

The real bonus? The fight's a little over 3 months away. Alvarez does not have enough time to hone the fine-tuned skills necessary to win and won't be able to improve his conditioning enough in that short of time span. He also has to lose an extra couple of pounds on top of it. People are making a big deal about the catchweight, but that's simply garnish to the main entree of not having enough time to fix what needs to be fixed.

I'll say it right now, and I'm a big Alvarez fan so it's nothing personal, but a lot of people are going to make a lot of money betting on Floyd in this matchup. The old master already has the young gun exactly where he wants him.

Canelo's ambition can't be questioned, but he's going to fall under the weight of his own hubris. He's not ready for Floyd yet, and Floyd knows it. In another year, it may've been a different story.

Canelo is a lion! No doubt, 2lb MIGHT BE trouble for someone whose a big guy and still growing, hopefully he does it properly. We all know what this catchweight makes Floyd, but we all knew that. I'm just looking forward to the fight and hope Canelo's weight doesn't impact his power

He can rehydrate to whatever he wants. It is not a problem.

    Chavez-Whitaker, Ali-Foster, Vargas-Mayorga, Jones JR-Trinidad, Pac-Cotto, Ayala-Tapia, SRL-Lalonde, Margarito-Cotto

All these had catchweights and it was not an issue.

LOL. I stopped reading when you said Canelo would be a massive favorite in the future.

I hate Floyd, no question. Won't deny it, but I give him props for taking the fight and not making Canelo go to 147-150. I think 152 is pretty fair here. We all know Canelo is gonna outweigh him by a lot on fight night.

Also, I use to think Canelo was hot garbage a few years ago, but he's definitely on the rise. I actually look forward to this fight.

I think the only logical fight to wait for Floyd-Canelo to become bigger was Cotto-Canelo, but Miguel seemingly didn't want to play that role, so while there was more experience for Canelo to gain and hype rounds to make, there's no valuable fight on the table, so instead of having a pointless tune-up, he went for the super-fight.

Of course from Floyd's standpoint this is the time to face a green Canelo, but realistically he'd be green even after beating Cotto and he's likely to lose anyway, so why wait? He doesn't care about the risks, he just wants the best, and this fight was inevitable so credit for both of them making it happen.

You probably finished it entirely then, because I didn't say he'd be a massive favorite in the future.

His odds improve dramatically the longer the fight waits to get made. He'd never be a huge favorite, but the fight would certainly become more winnable and less of an upset.

ah, the good ol "Canelo is too green" excuse is kicking in...

funny how you have no problem with him fighting an even older version of Floyd. how's that fair?

you know he's 36 years old right? Canelo has got the age advamtage. plus size..

Where did you get that I had a problem with what Floyd did?

Was it the way I dissed him by calling him an "old master", the way I called him a heavy favorite over an unbeaten champ, or the way I gave him credit for getting the better end of the negotiations?

Plus, I never said anything about it being unfair. Canelo was happy to sign up for it knowing all the details, so how unfair could it have been? That doesn't mean that Floyd didn't outsmart the hell out of him.

Floyd is the one approaching 40 years old, and we're supposed to feel sorry for a young buck having to lose an extra 2lbs AND he can get as fat as he wants to after the weigh in (no rehydration clause)?

Canelo, if he is champion, will overcome the little bit of adversity (2lbs worth) that his 22 year old body has to deal with.

Ill give you one thing OP, Floyd is about to have Canelo exactly where he wants him...... in the ring with him.

    TKO.

Alvarez and his team knows he has a limited window to collect a payday.

A 22/23 year old who comes in at 172 for a 154 fight isn't going to be able to stay at 154 for long.

Alvarez just fell into Floyds Trap ? I think its more likely Floyd is sick/tired of everyone calling him a p#ssy everytime he logs on to social media . So he FINALLY wants to shut everyone up and show the world he has balls . Floyd is fed up LOL

Canelo will basically be a punchbag whichever way he likes. The only thing that will beat Mayweather is time but as of now he has just run out of opponents.

The age excuse is always going to be there it was a fall back for PBF haters as a way to discredit the win. The truth is if Canelo was the same size as PBF no one would even mention his name. Size is all he has going into this match up.
