I think Cotto - Alvarez will be a good fight but neither of them will make a dent in Golovkin. Both of these guys want to play the smaller man roll and you can't beat Golovkin with a smaller man mentality. In my opinion it is the slick and quick and/or bigger and stronger who will dethrone Golovkin.

Golovkin is about 33 is it, he not super fast and he prefers....as they call it, Mexican Style. Well there is a style called pure boxing that gives Mexican Style fits! I see Golovkin doing no better than Pacquiao did against Mayweather if he ever fights a slick boxer.

So who can I see beating Golovkin: Ward, Lara, Spence (youth and time), Mayweather (if at 154), Prime Sergio Martinez, Prime Bernard Hopkins, Prime Toney, Prime Jones and G-Calzage would be interesting...yeah I know I just went old school so let's keep it current.

Ward, Lara, Spence, Mayweather (catchweight) these are the guys I see with the skills to take him down.

I started a thread a year ago, and asked who can beat Golovkin...nobody said Cotto or Alvarez, Cotto isn't very good 154 and above, too short, arms too short, cardio not good enough. He needs to fight Quillian, they both have been champs 160 the last few years.

Past boxers shouldn't even be included in your post......I could MAYBE see khan giving ggg a competitive bout.....if khan can move like lightning for 12 rounds......besides ward there aren't enough big names that are pure boxers....ggg will be fighting for money now..and at 33 I d.amn well would n all

Quillin would be a good competitive fight but I think G may win that one based on power, Peter spend too much time standing and staring rather than punching!

Recent past....I once asked and there is a current thread asking where was Golovkin 5-7 years ago? Considering the guy is 33 he was definitely hidden from the recent past prime fighters cause I don't see him matching up well with Hopkins, Martinez, Calzage, etc...

Mostly because of Universum. They never tried hard to get him good opponents and especially they never let him fight Sturm who was Universum's cash cow back then. Signing with K2 was the breakthrough point for him.

I think Mayweather-Golovkin has a more than 90% chance of looking just like Mayweather-Alvarez at 154. Considering how aggressive G's team is about not moving down in weight to fight Alvarez or Cotto it's clear they don't believe he can actually fight at 154. He would move down to that weight against Floyd for the money and it will also lead to his defeat!

Afterwards people will just complain, use the drained excuse and the fight would be nothing but another cash grab in Mayweathers pocket. Real fans will give Floyd credit but the majority would just find the best excuse (salt water) and roll with it.

No one 160 or below represents much challenge. They may make him look bad, but I don't see anyone beating him at those weights. Even with Lara, I would THINK team GGG would be smart enough to use their "A side" power (against Lara he is clearly the A) to put Lara back in that shoebox he fought Angulo in. I give Lara a near 0 chance to win that.

Ward probably beats him, but it wouldn't be as easy as the last few garbage fights Ward has had. To me it's a 60/40 ish fight.

Mayweather at this age would lose. Golovkin is an extremely accurate and active puncher. Even those glancing blows would be a lot to take for a 40 year old. "Dis ain't Berto"

Lara ran from Canelo's power and doesnt like it AT ALL to the body.

GGG is considerably bigger than Lara, would cut the ring off every round, destroy his body and rip off his head in 6rds or less. 0.0% chance Lara is even competitive here.

    Quillin gets wrecked in 4rds.

The fighter who beats GGG doesnt exist right now. Thinking back over the years only Toney or RJJ had a chance. Kelly Pavliks height, jab, and power makes it interesting. Not sure bernard could have done much besides try to stink it out and pray for a decision....watching him fight jermain taylor doesnt inspire much confidence in me at all.

i can't see anybody from 160 down beating him right now. he is about as good as it gets at cutting off the ring.. so the movers could get trapped. his chin affords him not too much respect for his opponenets power. 'probably have to be somebody bigger than him, maybe 168.

but cotto will never fight him.. and alvarez showed his azz talking about 155, so he won't fight golovkin either.

He's been trying to fight the best since he came up.

He beat Boudhla and Khomitsky before he won his first world title.:rofl
