Yes, of course you'd have to, since he'd be claiming the lineal championship.

Canelo would deserve more than Cotto did for the same feat, though it may be a little unfair to Cotto, the situation is what it is.

Yep. For being only 24, his resume is awesome.

That's the thing. You can judge him as being a ten-year, 46-bout veteran (by which standard his resume can be looked at unfavorably) or as, yeah, a 24 year old kid who in a three year period of 2011-2014 took a massive leap up in competition from what he faced in 2005-2010. (by which standard it can be looked at favorably)

its somewhere in the middle. which is about Canelo's level at the moment. Cotto isn't as shot as Mosley was but he is getting on a bit, however he is still a good fighter. Canelo is fighting too big for the weight imo,so he has the size advantage and a skill deficiency like Chavez jr and Broner when he was at 135 etc If he fought Cotto at 160 I think he could smash him up, at 154 i think Cotto will give him all kinds of trouble.

    Meh

It'll be a good a win as when he turned Miguel's brother into a bobble head.

Styles makes fights but Cotto gave Floyd a much harder fight than Canelo did, and just beat up the lineal MW champ. Not washed up at all, I don't even know when it was that he became "washed up".

People like to use that phrase soon as someone loses, he lost to Margo, Floyd and he lost to Pac, suddenly washed up. lol. He was never washed up. The latter beats pretty much any fighter they face around their weight class and Margo had bricks and stylistically bad for a Cotto who didn't box off the backfoot.

Kinda agree, dont think Canelo can handle moving targets. Just look at Floyd-Canelo and Floyd-Cotto. Specially a Cotto under Roach, IMO much better at closing down moving targets. Then again Canelo arguably beat Lara and Lara may have beaten Martinez.

Canelo gets full credit!! lets just be honest here an break it down

Cott would be the 2nd most experienced fighter hes ever faced (behind Mayweather, which he won no rounds) the storngest hes ever faced, ( not even close) the first boxer/pincher hes faced, Cotto has better trainer and better stamina.

I see it will be very hard for Canelo to win. Cotto gonna hit him and hes gonna get brave and try throw down, he can all bad real quick.

cotto has high miles on his engine. but at the same time it seems as if its been rebuilt as well. so i kinda do and dont want to give him credit. had he really beat lara i would have gave him credit for that fight. i like canelo but he has yet to prove he is a world beater or the best at 154. he's the most popular fighter at 154 but not best.

    Moving targets? :rofl
Martinez was stiff legged while walking on the stage! He didn't even spar...
Canelo would have killed Martinez that night.

No. Cotto is an illusion at 160. He loses to any legit world class MW

Yes, it would be very good win. Cotto is skilled, experienced, has good power and looks to still have pretty good speed and stamina. They are both similar in terms of heigh and reach too.
