We saw him get buzzed by the younger cotto but would the added experience and shift in weight up to 154 be in Saul's favour?

Miguel hasnt been tested since his loss to Pacquiao.......could be there for the taking? :deal

No. Alvarez is not in Cotto's level yet he has ways to go. If they fought right now, Miguel will KO/TKO him in less than 8 rounds.

Both fighters have shown to be vulnerable so this would be a hell of a fight.
Im gonna go out on a limb and say right now it would be a 51-49 in favor of Cotto.

In a years time then Canelo would be the favorite.

hmm for me i dont know how much more cotto can take.so many wars that he won and loss i think cotto would win.but cinnamon is good fighter already but he can be hit, ive seen cotto and baldomir land some decent **** on him.but he gave way more then he took if that means something.

From what I understand, Alvarez is working his way down in weight and pland to compete at 147 for the forseeable future.

Anyway, right now he's not ready for Cotto. Miguel has been through the wars but he's still a level above Canelo at the moment. Cotto outboxes him early then brings the heat in the mid-rounds to score the stoppage in a one-sided fight.

They're going in different directions though and it won't be long before Alvarez becomes the favourite.

Same way i see it except you forget that Alvarez has the speed and pop to trouble Cotto also with Cotto not having a great D or chin.

Im excited for this kid. He is only 20 and seems to be close to being ready to take on the top dogs. Anyone else recently that has been ready so young??

Cotto too good at the minute. Alvarez is still young in the game compared to Miguel. They would have stepped Alvarez up by now if they thought he was ready. They are doing the right thing...getting him a load of experience under his belt, letting him learn the trade.

Cotto via stoppage at this point, even after all the wars.

Was Cotto fighting people on his current level when he was 20?
What's the rush, Alvarez has plenty of time.

That said, it would still be a good scrap.
Should MC be around in a few years, they may meet.

Alvarez has the power, that's for sure. Cotto isn't a defensive wizard by any means but he's not that easy to hit either. He's got that stiff jab you have to get past, and if you get in punching range, he'll make you pay the price.

Canelo was also shaken up by his brother, a blown-up lightweight. I'm not going to hold that against the kid because he's only 20 and improving fast but I think that's an ominous sign if you're going to throw him in with someone as accomplished as Cotto.

I'm looking forward to seeing Canelo's progression though - it's not often fighters make waves like this at 20 years old.

The whole Canelo got hurt issue is way overblown. Did you see the punch that was landed? That was a huge punch and Canelo managed to stay on his feet along with fighting back and giving as good as he took. I think that punch would have KD quite a few WW. IT was a full force haymaker and Cotto does have some power.
If anything that showed us Canelo is made for TV. Any other fighter would have clinched or gone down which would have been smart but Canelo was firing back non stop. That was reminicent of Morales.

As far as MC and Canelo. I dont know how that jab would work against a bigger guy like Canelo. I think he has the height and reach advantage.

    not about age dude

different boxers peak different times, cotto peaked at 25-28, tyson at 20, lennox lewis at 34.

alvarez clearly proved he is better than the b level fighters such as baldomir and n'dou, now its time to step up to the next level.

Its about experience & Cotto clearly has this in spades. (Including amature)
Alvarez is still learning on the job, in this situation it defo matters.
