Boxing USED to be about winning the World Title....... There are that many that fighters nowadays who seem to avoid it and want the Money for fighting catchweight fights.... Come on guys fight your mandatory challengers and get back to your own weight divisions. If you wanna fight the guy above you fight him at his weight for a title and not this Catchweight Champion of the world bull****!!
Is GBP really trying to make this fight? GBP have guys like Kirkland and Angulo and there's also guys like Rosado and Molina who would all make for good opponents and would probably be available. Even this fight with Lopez was after a number of jr middleweights fell through, I'd be surprised, and disappointed, if it was Alvarez-Maidana in December.
dont wanna believe it. but i can considering he did it to lopez and matt hatton. so i can see this fight happening. maidana name was in the mix as well to fight him instead of lopez. overall i think this fite stinks. dont think it will happen and if it did canelo would smash him in similar fashion the way he did lopez. canelo should fight rosado if he wins friday . or just get a deal done with carlos molina asap
True but once you hold a world title then you should have to defend it against other World rated fighters. He may not be ready for that yet but the other fighters then have to wait along time for their shot at the title.
I'm sure Maidana is some kind of backup option after what happened last time, but GBP's got enough other better opponents on their roster that I hope they don't try it. That said, if they try to keep Canelo on Showtime, they might accede to a lesser opponent so they don't risk losing him back to HBO.
One would think that GBP would try to avoid this kind of situation considering the flack they caught for matching Canelo up with a career JWW(Lopez). Molina and Kirkland are the best opponents available in December but I would honestly even accept Rodriguez or Angulo over Maidana.
I can see this happening... It's easy to make, Both won on the same card this weekend. (Same amount of recovery time) As a 4th fight (This year) before a Cotto fight in '13, I can see it.
