Cotto was is worse shape against a lighter fighter he outweighed on fightnight by 17 pounds!!! And Cotto did good for himself for several years after that incident.

Alvarez who is a young kind, and highly skilled will surely make adjustments as he did immediately after being rocked.

True. It remains to be seen whether he turns out like Cotto did, or whether this does in fact indicate that he has shaky whiskers. All I am saying at this point is that it raises questions.

If anything it showed he has a good chin and good punch resistance .I have seen him fight bigger and stronger than himself and take all they have and beat them when they have thrown everything but the kitchen sink at him.
But he is still is not ready for a title shot as someone in this thread mentioned his defence needs to tighten up a bit .

What are people gonna say if Alvarez gets wobbled again, or knocked down or out??

The jury is still out, but this chin HAS to be viewed as suspect after last night.

    Oh Zak.

Cotto's skill level (gatekeeper's a bit unfair, by the way) has nothing to do with how strong he is.

There are plenty of very strong competitors with low skill level, and plenty of weak ones with a high skill level. The two don't necessarily go hand in hand.

It was his first time in with a seasoned pressure fighter who knows how to vary their plane of attack and force you to defend high and low simultaneously. He got caught by a physically strong (if blown-up) and determined man, pulled his **** together and went on to pitch a shutout the rest of the way. It's a learning experience.

Let him continue to develop and improve before putting him on any suspect chin lists. If after his maturation he keeps getting buzzed time and again, well OK. This is premature (just as it was with Gamboa).

:deal I don't get these mother****ers whining about his chin. Yes, he needs some polishing, but the kid is 19-20 yrs old! It's not like he went down from that shot. Cotto had never previously been stopped so that also says something about Canelo. He is one hell of a prospect. Some people here acting like if the boxing greats have never been knocked down early in their careers. :patsch Tito, Oscar, Pacquiao, Ali, etc have all been dropped early in their careers and not exactly by other great fighters.

I was impressed with it. He got smashed on the chin and managed to stay on his feet. It could easilly have been a KD.

Being rocked or even knocked down doesn't mean you have a dodgy chin.

    This.

He got smashed by a good shot. People go down or even get knocked out from those shots. The kid managed to stay on his feet.

I was very impressed by him. That being the first time I've watched him.

De La Hoya later went on to prove those incidents to be youthful flukes, likely do to

Trinidad's chin remained shaky throughout his career, although he compensated for this weakness with EXCELLENT recuperative powers.

It remains to be seen whether Alvarez follows De La Hoya's path, Trinidad's, or if his chin is as shaky as Amir Khan. At this point, it's questionable how this turns out, that's all I'm saying.
