Every time I do mitt work in the ring with the coach, I feel my jab is not getting enough length. That or he's holding them too far but I don't think he's the problem.

Tonight one of my jabs even came short and I didn't even hit the mitt. Any tips to help me out?

Have you tried stepping in when you take a jab? When I work mitts with folks I sometimes move back on purpose so that they get to work on footwork as they practice delivering punches. On occasion I also get too close so they get a chance at throwing jabs while retreating. I hope that helps.

We're doing it standing still, so we're not moving forwards or backwards.

Do you mean just moving your lead foot forwards then bringing it back after?

push off your back foot and take a step forward. or you can lean a bit to the right if your throwing a left jab...instead of leaning forward to reach...get it?

yea, what gatto said pretty much sums it up. so go forward by stepping off the back foot.

Take your time with the pads, i think people often rush them like i used to. Start slowly really focus on that target and speed will develop later. Do what the others said and or just makesure your in range think before you throw.
