I can only tolerate watching sluggers and action packed fights? EDIT: Really want to love boxing but for some reason pure boxers bore me even though I know what they are doing is special.
If you don't find Ivan Calderon pleasant to watch, then yeah, maybe you should give up and catch youtube highlights once a month to see the KO's.
I generally agree with you, you like a certain style, its like preferring a specific genre of film, you like all action, while some snobs like art films.
I got introduced to boxing during a David Tua fight and ever since, that has been the benchmark for all fights for me.
Yes, you're still of fan. But I think it comes with my time. The fact that you've joined this forum, and made this post, means you're a fan. How old are you? I'm almost 35. But when I was younger, I was like you. But over time, I started reading fighters biographies, and ordering magazines etc. The more I read, the more I learnt. It broadened my horizons. Since I've joined this forum, I've read some great threads, and it's made me frantically look on YouTube for the old fights. Nowadays, watching some old footage of Mike McCallum and Pernell Whitaker, wows me as much as a Ward vs Gatti type fight. The footwork and the feints etc. I also believe it makes a difference whether you've ever boxed or not. I personally have never been through the doors of a boxing gym, but I believe that if I had've done, I'd have appreciated a fighters skillset much sooner than I did. I can envisage a gym fighter studying film for tips and motivation etc. But my guess is, if you really love your boxing, and you're going to continue to post on this great forum and look forward to all of the big events etc, you will over time start to appreciate every style of fighter. :good
You don't have to follow boxing and sit through what you deem as boredom. There's a near infinite plethora of all action fights throughout history that can entertain you for a lifetime.
I was introduced to boxing by Tyson smashing everyone. If you were introduced to boxing by Tua, that's great. I used to love Tua. So you're used to watching great knockouts. But if I'd have started watching Tua, when it got to the point where he couldn't knock someone out, and he got beat, I'd have been looking for an inquest as to why that had happened. Because I'm inquisitive like that. At that point, I'd have been looking at why and how his great left hook had been nullified. That's when you start to learn. You look at how a guy managed to beat him. Then you start viewing a few fights of the guy that beat him. Then if he struggles with someone and gets beat, the whole process starts again. That's how I learnt. If you think you'll always love boxing, IMHO, you will definitely over time start to appreciate the guys and the styles that don't interest you currently. If you're still a member on here in a few years, and hopefully you will be, then we can bump this thread. If you've got some spare time, go on to the classic section. Because some of those threads will blow your mind. There's posters on there that have got incredible knowledge, that have actually met famous fighters of the past, even as far back as the 40's. They've watched the guys in the gym, and have seen fights at first hand. :good
Yes. I think you're the typical boxing fan. Only hardcores can tolerate boring fighters and sometimes, they are lying when they say that.
I just think it comes with age and interest. If you'd have shown me a Pernell Whittaker fight years ago, I'd have fallen asleep. But if you're interested enough to keep digging, these boring fighters suddenly just amaze you, and you question why you overlooked them in the first place. That's my experience. I think it starts when whoever your favourite guy is, gets beats easily, and at first you comprehend it. If this guy loves boxing and he continues to do so, I would imagine that he'll be viewing all styles of fighters, across most of the weight divisions, in the not too distant future.
I'm a purist, I like technical fighters, I love how someone who can be out sped, out muscled, over powered and undersized yet through skill and technique can school the far superior physical specimen. But even I would say you are a fan. I can totally understand why any boxing fan can just be drawn to the action, that's what attracted all fans in the beginning even the purists like myself.
The style matchup is all that matters for me. Could watch Marquez Pacquiao all day...literally has everything you could want. Slugfests are good but I fully respect the dangers of the ring so i'm thankfull these type of fights arn't that common. Watching a Rios fight is brutality & brain damage in motion (when the other guy can crack) it's barely boxing at that point.
of course your a fan. dont listen to these snobby nerds who think you have to love these punch and grab fighters because they fight "smart". ive said it before, they remind me of these star trek nerds who look down on you because you dont know what planet that green b itch comes from. for me, i like to watch combat sports to see what fighters i think would prevail in an actual fight for survival. who would actually win when youre playing for all the marbles. thats why im not such a big fan of these points fighters, in a battle to the end, they just wouldnt survive. i wouldnt call fans of these "tag, youre it" fighters any less of a fan, though.
I've always leaned towards intelligence. The intelligent boxer can easily negate the power of a power puncher. People who say some fighters are boring is likely because they don't understand the nuances of the sport. If you're a knowledgeable boxing fan you really appreciate all styles. There is simply nothing more beautiful to watch than someone negating a boxer completely as Algieri did to Plodonikov or Pac doing the same to Algieri, Floyd to Canelo, Floyd to JMM, Rigo to Donaire ... I'll take the master class any day!
you like good action, you have taste. Lesbian porn will only be good to watch if it has best action. We can go in deep detail of how to lick or how to use the tongue, but who has the time for that.
