ON 12/02/2009 Yodsanan Sor Nanthachai from Thailand fought Johathan Simamora from Indonesia in Bangkok, Thailand for the vacant IBF AUSTRALASIAN light welterweight title?????????????????????????????????????? I'm sitting here now and after 5 stubbs of new I still can't figure it out. Can someone help me out please before I lose all my bloody hair!

Except Julian has a point - In boxing the Australasian title is a title that has always been contested between the Australian and NZ national title, in fact the name is regsitered as such by the ANBF, Julian obviously knows his boxing history which is why he was scratching his head, eventually the orgs that use this title might well get some grief from the ANBF over the use of the name and I have to say I agree - howmany different fecking titles do you need for one region?
daz52, Thanks for pointing out what the last 4 letters of Australasia actually spell. Phil summed it up perfectly hence my confusion. Tell a person from Bangkok that he is Australasian and you might get a strange look. The title itself used to mean something but now?
:rofl No worries Nah i see where the confusion comes from, they aren't a part of Australasia, not sure why they got to fight for the title. Probably were willing to pay the most for the sanctioning fee.
Mundine and Thornberry fought for the Fedalatin and pan african title. i don't think it really matters what part of the world you are from, you can fight for almost any regional title.
