i was frustrated how Cortez handled this fight, but still brilliant boxing from FMJ
I think Cotto needs to pressure FMJ like this but with good timing shots :good

After watching that I'll say it again. Hatton has no defensive skill. His entire defensive stragedy is to grab you before you get your punches off, then ruff you up. When Cortez took that away Hatton had nothing. No head movement. Nothing. Am I wrong?

I don't think Cotto has the confidence to beat Floyd. I see Cotto being walked down viciously after getting cracked repeatedly by right hands. Cotto may have high ring IQ, but he's gonna break down quietly like he was about to do when Margarito started catching him late in their second fight IMO. You can look at Cotto and see that he breaks down when he is grimacing.

    Screw Cortez.

Hatton wasn't gonna win that fight, but it sure as hell would have been more exciting without Cortez.

Rounds 4 and 7 Cortez let Hatton tru to wrestle Floyd. Hatton got pummeled. Cortez saved Hatton from an earlier stoppage.

My issue with Cortez is the bias he showed against both Hatton and Calzaghe. In the Hatton fight, he refused to let any inside work take place. In the Calzaghe fight, he let Hopkins do whatever he wanted on the inside. Clear and obvious bias towards the American fighter in both cases, even though it contradicted his own 'firm but fair' rules.

Maybe, but he took away any chance Hatton had, and didn't do anything about Floyd's dirty ****.

Cortez is a fine ref. You can't hold and hit in boxing. You can hit when you're held, but you can't hold a guy and hit.

Floyd used his elbow because when Hatton kept missing his hook, he would grab Floyd either by the left arm or grab Floyd in a headlock, and start punching.

Hatton had the perfect footwork to corner Floyd, but his lack of s right hand forced him to hold Floyd in place and throw punches. Chavez Sr never needed to do that type of rinkie dink ****.

Come now sluggles, do realize how long Cortez has been a referee and how many championship fights he's participated in?

He didn't just start out officiating when your BFF got KTFO. :yep
