Am I right to think Shawn Porter would beat Mayweather

At 147 I think Porter could pull off an upset. His constant in your face, wild style, and work rate would be a problem for Floyd. If powerful offensive fighters like Spence and Thurman couldn’t keep Porter off of them I can’t see how the less dangerous Mayweather would. Porter’s just a bad stylistic match up for Floyd imo. Anyone agree?

Had I not seen Floyd deal with that before I’d agree with you.

The problem is we’ve all seen it.

Floyd turns, manipulates and uses minor wrestling techniques to control high pressure fighters. He tends to use his forearm as a defensive tool, in such a way that as they come in to pressure him, they run into it. It’s not illegal but it is effective.

Porter would be a great matchup but Mayweather jr was too clever to make it unless he saw an advantage. I could see him landing straight rights down the middle scoring those points on his way to a pitty pat UD.

Maybe now but a prime Mayweather? Not a chance. Mayweather would make Porter look like he was fighting in quicksand.

Porter is too sloppy and wild and wreckless, Mayweather would be able to punch in between those wild hooks and avoid returns

Mayweather was a lot stronger than people gave him credit for. I think that he would have punished Porter like he did Hatton. He was more precise with his punches than Thurman or Spence and he had good pop.

I think he would have some success in the beginning similar to Maidana but lose after that. Love Porter but he would just be too sloppy and wild and Mayweather would figure him out...even now I think.

No because Broner dropped him and Kell Brook used that beautiful jab, that I took for granted, to keep Porter at bay for his win for the IBF title. Mayweather's jab is even better, more stiff, and 1000 times more accurate.

    Nope.

And the hint is in your own post.

Thurman couldn't keep Porter off of him. Yet, still managed to get the W.

Floyd is so much better than Thurman in almost every single department, so much smarter, his gas tank is so much better, and is so much more mentally tough, with likely a better chin to top it off. If Porter couldnt take control of Thurman, hes absolutely not taking control of Mayweather.

People also underrate how strong Mayweather is in close. Thurman is probably stronger than Mayweather, but I doubt its as much as people think, and its offset by so many other factors.

Porter actually matches up better with Thurman than he does with Floyd, imo. Thurman, a guy who doesnt like pressure, isn't a natural fighter, cant fight effectively inside, wants time to think, wants his range, doesnt like a fast pace, average durability, ect. Mayweather is a different league, and has none of the vulnerabilities that favor Porter, unlike Thurman.
Mayweather can handle pressure, he can fight inside, he has atg stamina, hes comfortable at any pace, ect ect ect.

Mayweather would have a tough couple rounds than do what he'd need to do to adjust and neutralize Porter.

He'd definitely rough up Floyd worst than Marcos Maidana did. Would he win? No, i think Floyd can get rough and tough in there as well, but i think Floyd can pull out a win by being accurate with the right hand down the pipe.

I said the same thing four years ago or so on here. I've always thought Porter would be a nightmare opponent for Mayweather, so yeah... I agree with you.

Porter would definitely be a problem, just as Maidana and Castillo were.

I don't think Thurman is more powerful than Floyd and certainly not more dangerous. Floyd is much more accurate with the same power. Keith had power in the lower divisions at "one time". Now he just has a stupid nickname. Spence maybe has more power.

    Beat, no way

However when he beat broner he called out floyd and floyd fought berto

At that time I was very interested in that fight but I don't think porter would win but I think he would make it exciting
