Would it hinder muscle recovery and improvements in size/strenght (what ever one is seeking) What do you do when your sore? Thanks in advance
If I stopped working when my muscles were sore, I'd never get anything done. Preseason during soccer was basically 2 weeks of being sore.
I think it depends on the level of soreness. If your legs give out when you're walking down the stairs, then maybe you should rest. Like DynamicMoves said, first few weeks back are going to be an achy mess - but I usually take it slow when I get back into something (start with 1 day a week for a couple weeks & slowly build from there).
Use your head, you know your body. Logicly if you do weights for chest on monday and your sore on tuesday you shouldnt do chest again but not cuz your sore cuz u did it day before. If you do chest and got boxing next day and your sore training won't actually harm your recovery even if you do the odd press ups.
Muscle soreness is apart of training, if you're training hard its apart of life. Don't burn yourself out, chances are you will know if thats happening. Get some good rest days happening, stretch, keep a good diet and fluids.
judge your pain, if you think you can warm up and work hard through the soreness without getting hurt OR it having a negative effect on your training i usually push through it just remember if you are pushing through it, you will stay sore and get more sore...eventually take a full days rest, it's necessary, and will get you good to go until you need it again..i know sometimes soreness last days, but again, judge your pain i usually take 1 full day of rest a week, where i wont box, run, or play any other sports just to recharge my body, and another where i just lightly work out, usually sat-sun
Just want to add that from my experience it depends where in your body you have them. E.g Upper body or legs. With legs you have to be very very carefull that its just doms and not anything else e.g pulled hamstring
I guess I get different DOMS than everyone else. When I get DOMS in my legs, I have a very hard time even walking. I've almost fallen down stairs when my quads gave out. To me, DOMS is not normal soreness that you get from a good workout. It's when even slight muscle exertion can cause agony, and the muscles are painful to the touch. Normal muscle soreness? No problem, suck it up. Like I said earlier, the first 2 weeks are going to be a big ball of hurt no matter what. If you're over 30, you're going to have to go slower, be more consistent, and build in at least a couple rest days a week, it's just a fact of life. If you're under 30, you can afford to charge it a little harder because you should be able to recover faster.
Can someone knowledgeable shed some more light on this? Wether its just bull****, or infact true? Also is it backed up by any scientific evidence? I can see where he's coming from, but im not sure:huh. Got myself some researching to be doing:good.
I'm not saying this to insult you, but I've done that course. It's very basic and what you're taught is absolute bull****. Do some research online and you'll learn the reality of training. Stick to what they've taught you and you'll get nowhere, seriously. It's about training smart, not how often.
