I know this era gets crapped on by all the elitists, but I actually found it to be pretty interesting and exciting and I remember some pretty decent matchups and fights... Probably my favorite part was the addition of James Toney, and his defensive style to the division, but of course there was also the slickster Chris Byrd fighting at his best around this time.. ..Roy Jones was still the wild card factor although he sadly decided to return to light heavy.. The Klitschkos were the assumed heir apparents, but both had suffered rude awakenings when stepping up to the limelight so there was still a lot of uncertainty around them.. Everyone knew Lennox and Tyson and holyfield we're finished, but John Ruiz was back from the dead and putting together a respectable title reign.. I even remember Andrew Golota getting a title shot vs Byrd I believe, and he actually showed up and fought like a man.. Then you had guys that had been around but hadn't really broken in the big time yet like Brewster, Danny Williams, and Corrie Sanders, all getting in some big wins and exciting fights... And even the underachievers like Jameel McCline, Audley Harrison and Dominic Guin still had a decent amount of intrigue based on their size and potential.. All and all I thought it was a pretty decent era that put out some pretty decent fights.. Certainly not the 1990s, but a lot more fun of a time then people give credit for... A nice little twist that so many guys during that era had been around already but had not not yet come in to their own, but starting doing so during that stretch, some nice little redemption stories in there.. Compare that even to today, we have the big 3 fighting each other (repeatedly) but not a whole lot of depth beyond that
